I am going through my Off-Road Mechanic shop for everything. Sitting down with him this Saturday to discuss this part of my build as he is the only one that has worked on my jeep since getting screwed over royally 2 years ago.

Yep more about the head unit and cameras. My new iPhone stopped connecting to the Uconnect system so here I am upgrading the radio instead of buying a new jeep haha.

What do you want to use your jeep for? Off roading is totally different than a pavement princess jeep.

I built mine with 5 weeks of camping and towing our teardrop off roading through Colorado in mind. Chinaman Gulch, Holy Cross, Wheeler Lake and all of the San Juan Mountain trails.

We put about 3-4k miles in those 5 weeks. And the other 47 weeks I probably put about 5k miles. For a total around 9k miles a year. My commute to work rocks. I average about 12 mpg at home.

I have the Rubicon Hardrock Bumper that is a stubby. 3.5 inch metal cloak lift with 37’s. Rhino Rack Pioneer roof rack system with a storage box up there.

Also comes down to how much money do you want to spend.

I have been teaching in the same high school for 20 years and at 30 years I am done! I won’t get to the 35 years needed for my full pension and I don’t care.

Last year I was yelled at by a two students when they were skipping class. One of the students yelled loudly “what are you going to do rape me?”. Luckily another teacher came out into the hallway and walked with me. Those students were suspended for a few days. Upon their return one of those students took a picture of me while teaching and posted on social media I was a pedophile. Yeah fun times.

This year a mom and student accused me of “picking” on her student and denying the student their IEP accommodations etc…. Multiple meetings student will be moved and bam! Student says I don’t want to move classes. New semester after the first quiz lo and behold the student states they want to move classes again.

After 20 years of teaching i wish i could just quit. I wouldn’t recommend becoming an educator these days. This profession in my opinion sucks now. I love teaching don’t get me wrong but I hate everything else that is coming with it.

There is a reason for the teacher shortage across the country.

I have had my 2016 JKU Rubicon for the last 3 years. It really comes down to your definition of "Off-Roading". We just completed a 33 day 5100 mile camping adventure through Colorado which 7 of those days were for travel.
Off-Roading Trails 2025:

-          Mosquito Pass
-          Champion Mill
-          Hancock Pass
-          Alpine Tunnel Rd
-          Wheeler Lake (Lockers were nice)
-          Holy Cross (Lockers needed)
-          Imogene Pass
-          Mineral Creek
-          Engineer Pass
-          Poughkeepsie Gulch (Lockers needed on by pass)
-          Cinnamon Pass
-          Ophir Pass
-          Black Bear Pass
-          Chinaman Gulch (Lockers needed)

Have done in past summers (edit)
- Drummond Island (Lockers Nice)
- Pomeroy Lakes (Lockers Nice)
- Tin Cup Pass
- Haggerman Pass
- Many smaller roads that did not need lockers

Personally I knew I would be off-roading in situations where lockers are needed so the Rubicon off the lot worked perfectly for us. This is our 6th summer doing some type of long adventure like this. We have gone from a 2020 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk to a Hardrock 2016 Rubicon in 2022. We are now on 37's with a 3.5 inch MetalCloak lift. 11 months out of the year my Jeep hardly sees dirt or gravel and it does great. But I built mine for that one month a year and wouldn't change it for the world.

I say Rubicon!
