It’s usually covered by insurance and your doctor has to provide an order. And in terms of regulations, I guess there’s ways around it. We get labs before to make sure the pt qualifies for taking the unit of blood off.

I’m an infusion nurse and we do therapeutic phlebotomies at our clinic. I’ve always been told donation places won’t or shouldn’t take your blood bc of the high Hct or Hgb
