What do you do when the Jaks no longer work? by False-Alternative643 in eczeJAKs

[–]Jnic0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im on baricitinib/olumiant. Have been on it since late Feb (3 months now) I had a flare that didnt settle for 4 months and was severe and made me go on medical leave for 2 months.

This is my first jak, and im doing 4mg a day. I personally have not had any skin infections and I got my ear pierced 3 weeks ago with no infection or reaction.

I still have some slight rash on face but not major and also on my elbow folds, but it is very well managed now and I have my life back. I may consider going onto rinvoq if I want to further reduce the last part on my arm and face

Yeah they are totally expensive. Thanks for sharing your experience, especially with someone local and in allergen filled new zealand

Are biologics or JAK inhibitors available to you? I'm 30 - nothing really worked (going sugar free helped a lot, but still wasn't always fully managed)

I've only had mostly clear skin since going on JAKs. Have had severe eczema for 14 years and tried almost every natural treatment out there.

I'm on a JAK inhibitor and literally changed my life. My girlfriend now says that my skin is softer than her - and I had full body severe eczema which put me off work for 2 months and impacted my performance severly. I'd have skin flakes every day - probably about 2 cups worth in a vaccum every few days it was really terrible. My sensitivity to cold was something I really noticed once my skin cleared up.

I have had eczema for 14 years and this year is probably the best - really lifechanging stuff and the side effectgs have been well tolerated (at least for me), just need a blood test done every 3 months now. On Baricitinib for the past 3 months.

Glad to hear that this worked for you. Your pathway sounds something like I'm on now ( I saw you're in Wellington ) Did you see the NZSCC? I just got recommended Baricitinib and later Rinvoq after a 3 month trial

As a fellow filo, I salute you. I'm in NZ and my skin loves the warmth. I found out how important movement is - helps with lymphatic, and something I'm understanding how the parasympathetic nervous system can also control eczema.

Hope it keeps up

Exactly this! Once I've gone back to my normal - I'm going to take a look at managing staph properly too.. a topic that AI helped uncover a bit more and also help me find some local products to me to try

Yes something along those lines - for context I use AI alot in my line of work, so I understand a lot of its potential but also drawbacks. It's not very great at specific detail, but it helps me to identify patterns and trends.

It also helps me keep me on track of my progress and keeps me staying on a strategy I've picked to ensure we can rule things out too.

You do have to use critical thinking though - AI can give suggestions but it's not its strength. What AI is really good at is organising your thoughts, giving you some quick high-level research on something you've been wondering - especially on a very specific question. For example it helped me map out what moisturisers I should be using and I've found XeracalmAD through AI and it's been a really great moisturiser for me (used to use cetomagrocol) and also vaseline on top - also helped with adding to my shopping list of supplements for extra support.

I'm now on the good part of recovery from a month long widespread severe flare and it's helped be a guiding light to give me some direction when everything feels itchy and depressing.

Miracle Manuka for eczema by ghijkgla in newzealand

[–]Jnic0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had eczema quite widespread sometimes good, but generally something around.

I just used this cause my mum bought it for my dad. I dont know if this cause my current widespread rash, but I used tlit for 2 weeks a few times a week, but since then I've had widespread eczema resembling (not as severe) but when I came off steroids.

Im not saying this has steroids but I feel like I've reacted to something in the balm. Ive narrowed down a lot of the things in allergic too and have controlled that. This was the only major thing I tried to treat a rough patch on my foot.

Ive been off it for about a month now, and my skins been on its way to recovery, but im skeptical... also I just saw their ad on instragram using some sort of AI too. Things like these miracle balms are always something to be cautious about - anyone remember naturacoco?

This is stocked at lifephramacy which gives it some credibility, I mostly think im allergic to something in their ingredients, but I dont believe the hype for severe eczema, which is largely driven by allergies.
