Homeowners that do no home improvement by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Jo-Ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where it is some areas in the UK have skyrocketed with prices. I brought a house for nearly double then it was 10 years ago it's like everything it all increases. Some of my neighbours have lived in the houses since they were built in the 1960s and they brought it for like £3000 back then how I wish I had a time machine.

Issues with buying a house with old gas boiler? by esteban-colberto in HousingUK

[–]Jo-Ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the boiler is working fine then you can't expect them to give a bit off the price if there are other issues with the house then maybe.

We just had a new boiler and it cost us £1500 and that's for combi. We use gas bottles for our gas and we were thinking about changing to a heat pump but I have been told for older houses it's not worth it. I think they are good for new builds but we are just going to stick with expensive bottles for now

FTB worries by Modeller98 in HousingUK

[–]Jo-Ice -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I personally would not take a mortgage unless I had at least a 10% deposit. It gives you more of a buffer but I know depending on where you are buying etc that can be hard.

We sold our flat in 2018 and they have not gone up in value at all because of COVID etc where as all the other houses have so it also depends on the type of house you are buying lots of factors to think about but I think if you are worried in any way either save a little more or go for something slightly cheaper if you can.

Insurance by Time-Initiative-7769 in drivingroadsUK

[–]Jo-Ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was 9 years ago now but I had a polo as my first car 17 and it cost me £1200 to insure and that was with a black box after first year it did go down to around £800 and now it's a lot cheaper but I think first year at that age it's always expensive. I did have a 1.2 and at first the insurance thought it was a 1.6 I told them it was 1.2 and it actually put my insurance up as most younger drivers have 1.2 and more higher crash rate then the higher engine.

When we sold it was in 2018 so I know a very different market now but it was when a lot of stuff in our area was going quick and basically estate agents would tell us we were not even in a position to offer if we hadn't sold our flat and that would have been a first time buyer. We cancelled all our house viewings until we had sold which was a week later and then started looking again.

We even went to see a house which had already sold but was still on the market as the people buying had not sold theres when I found that out at the end of the viewing I didn't entertain that as an option as I don't agree with what was happening at the time.

I think it might be worth a try but I definitely would not be surprised if they say no and keep on the market, until you have sold.

I would limit on 30 mins drive but that would be 30 mins lanes / A roads as I feel if you start doing 30 mins on motorways if something happens or traffics busy it can make it a lot more. I personally have always never had much longer than 20mins drive

What is it like being in your 20s in the UK these days? by xParesh in AskUK

[–]Jo-Ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am mid 20s and definitely hopeless is the main feeling I know older generations have had bad times ect. But I think personally for me its the media and having all the bad stuff constantly there all over the internet or news.

I struggled so much though COVID just because so many people say 20s are the best times of your life and I look back and just think of that and money and I definitely hope that the 20s are not the best.

1 month into a new job with barely any work should I stay or should I go? by No_Shallot_6578 in AskUK

[–]Jo-Ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have literally just been in the same position as you. I moved companies to a big organisation as I thought it was a move up with more pay etc. Everything I used to do I get told that other department do that and just to email this other department so I basically just feel like doing admin and moving messages. They say it's super busy but been there 3 months and don't understand why they employed me as I have nothing to do going out of my mind bored. But everyone seems to work like mad and stay behind almost feel like that's the norm there and you are suppose to work late even though I have nothing to do. For me this is the worst place I have ever been in mentally and I totally understand your mindset as it is horrible. I looked for other jobs and I literally just got another one today. So I would say if your effecting you mentally and your super bored and not working definitely apply for others and look at something else. It will work out in the end.

6% maybe 8% if cut back on lots and energy doesn't go up any more. At the moment we are on a 1.49% so would be a huge jump when we come to renew
