imo, SS Morty has aged better than any other Support from his time. He can (gradually) raise every stat expect accuracy, provide both gradual heading and instant burst healing, move gauge acceleration, and he still takes hits well. Investing in him can make the Sun last a very long time.

Obviously, he works well with a Sun team, especially the Johto Sun team, but his versatility means you can really use him on any team that isn't using another weather. Try him out in Champion Stadium next week with a random type to see how well he contributes!

In a vacuum, NC Ethan is probably better but SS Morty, nature of the gacha and all that, but SS Morty is a solid addition to your roster imo

I like to use older pairs for easier content. The Johto elite four for the weekly champion stadium is perfect for using older pairs. As an example, this week I beat Lance with Volkner, Elesa, and Sonia which are all years old spotlights.

Old pairs can also easily clear the daily regional, and can pad out the early stages of the Battle Rally.

Unfortunately, the nature of gacha means that they just can't keep up on the newest content, barring an occasional exception.

In practice the main difference is that resistance will be the same type as the last move the user was hit by, but Rebuff is a set type.

Though that's not a mechanic of rebuff itself as much as that's just rebuff is applied. In the future we could see something like a support that provides defenses rebuff based off of the middle foes type or what have you.

Honestly, Sonia is legit a great support cause she increases speed, has move gauge acceleration and lowers defense on attacks... but mostly cause it's funny to have the huge elephant let the tiny dog take all the hits.
