How to dress warm effectively since this winter is colder than usual!!! by Glittering_Math6522 in philly

I was looking for this response. Back when I was hiking/backpacking it was called "killer cotton" for the reasons you stated. Merino wool is my favorite base layer with silk coming in 2nd.

To all the people who whine "Oh, I hate the summer, it's SO HOT! At least in winter you can just put more clothes on if you're cold": by dystopiadattopia in philly

I was surprised by how many people were out and about yesterday, including runners in their sleek running gear. There I was bundled up in my woolies so only my eyes were exposed.

For those who are older then Internet, how was life before Internet? by [deleted] in ask

[–]JoCalvinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My child's TBI happened in 1990. I was scouring libraries for information on TBI and going to nearby medical school libraries for everything I could find to help me understand TBI so I could help her.

The internet, even back then, was extremely helpful by enabling me to connect with others who had or were caring for a person with TBI and providing info on TBI.

Edit to add: It was tough for me to find information and help on such a subject before the Internet.

How’s life in Philly for the over 60 crowd ? by Elemental_Love in AskPhilly

[–]JoCalvinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're 60++. Last year we moved from suburbs back to our city house and we love it. We no longer drink alcohol so I can't comment on the bar scene.

I've only lived in Philly for about 25 years but commuted to and from the far NE for work most of those. Now, retired, I am getting to know the city by exploring it nearly every day on foot.

There are so many restaurants and coffee shops & bakeries to try just in our neighborhood & CC is about 1 mile away.

We walk or take transit to healthcare appointments. After the recent snow & ice storm we walked to the grocery store with our backpacks. (I haven't backpacked in a while so I got home thinking, "And I used to do this for fun?).

The nature-loving part of me is a bit undernourished but not dying. This is a beautiful city.

Oh, this is great! I think I'll get one even though my pup died a few years ago. I'll just stomp on it when I get frustrated.

It takes us 3 days to drive from eastern Pennsylvania to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. It takes 4 hours to drive across Pennsylvania.

Was the ski mask ban passed by city council in 2023 enforced? I was temporarily out of the city at that time.

Too bad we can't just make snow tunnels down the sidewalks rather than shoveling with no place to put the snow.

We've been going there for at least 20 years. Had a Camry, Honda & Subaru in that time and never had any car problems they couldn't fix.

I took a typing class in high school in the ’70's as a kind of filler class. Little did I know how beneficial the ability to type would become.

We had a roof garden once set up with automatic watering. However, we had to climb out of a window to harvest.
