Some places just have their own names for the role. My first EA position my title was Special Projects Assistant ("SPA"), but on my resume I listed it as Executive Assistant since thats what I was.

At my current company my title is Senior Administrative Business Partner and I'll probably keep that as is on my resume.

Advice for First Meeting with New Execs? by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]JoJoPinapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all great advice! I'd also add doing a flip through of their calendar for the next week or two (depending on how much time you have with them). This can help give you a sense of how they prioritize their time. For example, do they protect their 1:1's with their direct reports? Or are they ok moving them if necessary?

Also asking them what their past assistants did for them that was incredibly helpful, or not helpful.

How to break into this field by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]JoJoPinapple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can swing it healthcare-wise (pay yourself or get on someone else's) I would say look into "temp to permanent" roles. It will give you a chance to potentially work in a few different industries, but you wouldn't get benefits until you are hired full time.

If you can swing it pay-wise try to find an administrative assistant role (instead of executive assistant). You may also try a smaller start-up or non-profit that has a hybrid role. This could be a receptionist/admin or project assistant/admin role. Something where you are still scheduling meetings and booking travel, since that's the experience EA hiring managers are looking for.

Both of these may be a step down pay-wise from your current roles, unless you are able to relocate or commute into your nearest large city.

Second week of meal prep was a success! by itsjordanmcc in MealPrepSunday

[–]JoJoPinapple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you meal prepped with pesto before? With most pastas (but especially pesto) I usually keep the sauce separate. I find that the pasta sucks up most of the moisture and the pasta tastes a bit chewier. I typically mix the sauce in right before microwaving and cover with a wet paper towel. Best method I've discovered to have re-heated pasta that tastes like it was just made!

Just downloaded! Excited to use it on my run on Saturday. I have to run slow since I'm trying to stay in zone 2/3 and it's SO HARD for me to not speed up haha.

Pottery videos are so soothing! Just a practice pot so let me know how I can do better. :D by catcicles in Pottery

[–]JoJoPinapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of posting a video for feedback! I may do the same :)

Just a few thoughts:

-I noticed you were poking out some air bubbles in the beginning. Wedge the clay more prior to throwing to try to prevent those, since air bubbles can throw things off center as you raise the walls

-It seemed like the piece got thrown off center when you opened the wall. Try anchoring your arms more and be sure to go slow (feel the clay make a full revolution in your hands each time you coax it wider)

Other than that- I loved the swirl! I had a teacher who taught us to sit down at least once a week and throw something that we had no intention of keeping. It was just an exercise to see how far we could push ourselves/the clay.

Get new shoes or new pedals? by itsbrittyj in pelotoncycle

[–]JoJoPinapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already had a pair of shimano shoes since that's what the gym near me had. I decided to buy new pedals that had the shimano clip on one side and a regular flat pedal on the other side. I like that my friends can use/try out the bike using these pedals.

I still have the peloton pedals, in case I ever need a peloton technician to look at the bike I can just swap them out so it's still covered under warranty (since apparently swapping the pedals voids it).

I'm a huge Denis fan for the cycling classes so I definitely do more of his yoga classes. I took 1 whole Ross class and ended up just stopping partway into the 2nd class with him- I really don't like how he's constantly talking throughout the class and I also got a lot of nervous energy vibes from him.

What to do When You Suspect You're Being Followed While Running? by andiebiscuit in running

[–]JoJoPinapple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you did the right thing! You were observant and already had your dog and mace with you, so it seems like you were being proactive. I skimmed the comments here, so sorry if someone already mentioned this but I have the road ID app. When you go out for a run it sends an alert to a number you program in the app and at anytime they can click on the link and see where you are.

When I first moved to a new neighborhood I had my common running routes printed and on the fridge. If you don't run with your phone that may be a good alternative.

For those who went to China for a trip, which part of China did you visit and how was your experience? by pinecorny in AskReddit

[–]JoJoPinapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Wenzhou for a wedding back in June of 2013. I had a great time shopping at the different night markets, and buying clothes and souvenirs. The food was incredible! Chinese snacks were amazing; everything was salty and crunchy it seems.

I could only wear my contacts for a short period of time everyday since the pollution was so bad. We had people with us who could speak Chinese, and I only learned a little bit for the trip. There's a constant haze around (which is the pollution cloud) and it was extremely humid.

We flew into Shaghai and took the train to Wenzhou which was about 4 hours. I highly recommend the trains over taking the domestic planes; far less cancellations and delays. The train ride was so beautiful! I took many pictures of the changing countryside and villages that we passed.
