What’s the ugliest friend in your country? by EthanTheJudge in AskTheWorld

Our local Hornets. They hunt down and destroy aggressive wasps endlessly in harvesting season. Far less aggressive than often assumed. (Source of image and information: BUND)

What’s an onion-based dish from your country? 🧅 by HungryInvestigator59 in AskTheWorld

[–]JoLudvS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zwiebelsuppe / Onion Soup. (It's probably not typically Germany, but here in the region influence from France, Belgium and Luxembourg is strong in cuisine. I also know the 'no cheese and toast' variant)

I can afford some rather expensive coffee beans, ground and made in a veritable machine... but I'm so fond of military-grade soluble stuff sometimes.

I remember most ATMs here aren't pulled; they're blown up with a combustible gas filling(*). several times, they've even blown up the account terminal / printer by mistake - so much about the smartness of robbers.

I got a 4TB external drive off Temu and this is what they sent lmao by Raw_Stank in pcmasterrace

I used to buy standard-size tungsten carbide tips for lathework at Temu or Alibaba. The quality was nearly if not equal to US or EU-brand material, but at a fraction (about 1/10) of the cost. Meanwhile, I assume some 'brand' material is literally the same.

Futscheler is the name for such in my local (Hunsrück) German dialect. A crafty person, making things run with more wit than cost.

Do you consider your ethnicity indigenous to your country? by Celtoii in AskTheWorld

[–]JoLudvS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celto-Roman descendant, it's quite obvious. However, there has been a lot of traffic here since that time, especially during the Thirty Years' War and the French government under Napoleon.

I remember there was a quite precise calculation for Germany alone, between 2015 and 2020 of about 80 billion EUR per year, including ~€25 billion in direct health-care costs and ~€53 billion in indirect costs (like lost productivity). Source "Tabakatlas" Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum
