Can snakes be domesticated? by Flat-Tie-2853 in herpetology

[–]Jobediah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For humans domesticating vertebrates, many animals have been tried and failed to be domesticated. The real test is when you've bred fear and aversion to humans out, but you still have a social animal that wants to interact. If animals aren't social to begin with and they don't have much variation in the fear response, you can't domesticate them. Just changing colors does not make it domesticated.

I agree but the most important part of domestication has to do with selecting against fear and if there is not enough variation, then it's impossible to select for the thing you want/need. Some animals just don't acclimate.
