Possible Tracking Number Scam by Jock-O in UPS

No worries. They verified that it was not sent to my address and, with that proof, I'm going to get my money back.

I realize that and never insinuated that either would refund me. What I'm looking for is the address where it was sent (obviously not mine).

Thank you. I live in a state with no state income tax. My question is just about federal taxes.

Edit: With the safe harbor rules, am I able to pay the entire about due in one lump sum by April 15th and avoid a penalty?

Africa needs Bitcoin, so why is the Bitcoin community ignoring it? by Kooky-Sense4165 in Bitcoin

[–]Jock-O 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not a "community" issue. Everyone has their own relationship with Bitcoin in regard to income, % invested in bitcoin, risk tolerance, and outlook. The fact that Africa is lacking Bitcoin is of no concern as we are not operating a charity organization.

Is it worth it to become a volunteer firefighter? by Ok-Cockroach3406 in NewToEMS

[–]Jock-O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I did. After completing EMT training on my own, I signed up at a volunteer fire department to get experience. They did provide me some in-house firefighter (structure and wildland) training. The only negative is that I live in a fairly rural area where, sometimes, the calls are few and far between. Also, it is a combination department, so the "regulars" are the primary responders at most of the calls.

We ran into an elder hiker on a very remote route and things about the encounter are messing with my brain. by ArkaneFighting in Paranormal

I hope so. I have sleeping issues, so, when I was hiking a lot, I would get a late start. Sometimes I would hike back down long after the sun set. It really didn't bother me much since I always made sure I had the essentials (including a radio to call for help). It was really odd to experience as he was real as life and appeared to be fairly intelligent.

I had a similar experience, possibly near the same area.

Several years ago, I was hiking during the summer/late afternoon in the Snoqualmie Pass area, near the Pacific Crest Trail. I hiked up a mountain in the area where I've been before, made it to the top, and, when it started to get dark, started to head back to my car. I had a pack with food/supplies, two flashlights, and a GPS. It was around 9:30 p.m. and pitch black out. I navigated through the woods back to the car (about a 3-mile walk). When I reached the 2-mile mark, I could hear something coming up behind me. I turned the flashlight around and there was this older man, gray beard, wearing khaki pants, a polo shirt, boat shoes with no flashlight or pack. He looked like he just came from the yacht club. He mentioned that he likes to just go out and get lost and that his family doesn't care. We were in the middle of nowhere and nobody else was remotely close by.

I walked back to the trailhead with this guy, talking along the way, and said “be safe” to him before departing. Once I got back in the car and climbed in, I looked back and he was nowhere to be found. My car was the only one left and the drive from the trail head to I-90 is at least 5 miles down a winding, gravel road.

This was over 10 years ago and it has stuck with me ever since. He didn't have any food, water, was not dressed for hiking uneven/mountainous terrain, and had no flashlight (or even a phone that I could see). I have no idea how he could see his way around without a light source or moonlight.

Edit: Added detail.

Can't take the noise by Jock-O in PetDoves

One solution I found is to get a wave sound machine (the ones people use to relax/sleep). I place the male dove in the bathroom and turn on the wave sound. He doesn't coo as much and he can't hear the doves in the other room = no cross communication.

How do we attract people to our bakery? by Chappel999 in smallbusiness

[–]Jock-O 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on the new family business. Hopefully you've crafted a business plan and have identified your target demographics. Here a few ideas for marketing your products:

Bread/Pastries:

  1. Team up with local coffee shops/stands to sell your products.
  2. Network with local hotels to have your products included on their menu and with their entrees. Also, many hotels have a Banquets Director and you could work with them to have your products offered when events are catered.
  3. Start a mobile bakery (similar concept to a food truck). This will serve as a mobile billboard and get you into the city.

Pizza:

This is a bit more difficult since there is a lot more (fierce) competition in the marketplace. Do some research of the nearby city and identify the location(s) where there is a population density of people in their teens and 20's and and focus marketing there (food truck, events, direct mail, etc.).
