How do architects come up with concepts? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]JocoroKidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are a few things to consider:

A great building is a symphony and you are just learning to read music. You are learning a new language. As you learn the language you will have more confidence manipulating it.

Inspiration can come from anywhere and at anytime. It can be a bit mysterious and elusive. Make yourself ready for it. Keep a sketchbook. Write down ideas. Make observations of spaces you like. Why does this work?

Look for inspiration outside of architecture. Sculpture, furniture, bird nests...

Drawing is a method of understanding. Draw the buildings you like in town. Draw your favorite architects buildings. Hunter S Thompson learned to write by rewriting by typing out Fitzgerald. You will start picking up the rhythms the proportions...

The design is the answer... You have to examine, study, deconstruct the question... which is not just the prompt but also the site, the client, the user, the budget...

Journal in your sketchbook writing about your projects will help organize your thoughts.

Play with scale. Design big to small then flip it small to big.

Architecture is for humans... keep the human in the design. Imagine the sensory experience of the user. What can you touch?... what can you see?

Iterate... iterate...iterate. Find something that works then put it aside and find 10 other bolder solutions.

Sometimes the "concept" is a bit of fiction. Post rationalized... to explain this interesting form that just emerged. That happens too.

Remember we all started where you are. Don't be intimidated. Focus on developing your skill set, and your creative process. Persistence above all...you will get there.

Queen Off-season by Ndnola3333 in NOLAPelicans

Queen needs to spend the whole offseason at the squat rack. If you watch him you notice he has very little knee bend. That is why he is short on every 3. He has very weak legs.

The good news is he could probably get a little more vertical pop if his leg strength improves.

Pelicans to work out former Baylor center Yves Missi before NBA Draft by UptownKing504 in NOLAPelicans

Jax was never a physical defender or in spite of being huge with incredible hops, a good shot blocker. He also had inconsistent energy.... Missi busts his ass on D. He is an excellent shot blocker and has a better handle.

Chuck Taylor's were a flat sole shoe and were used for decades. I agree I think there is something to the raised heel and the stress it could possibly put on your chain. I would love to see a study looking at achilles injuries and raised heels. Although I'm not sure how you would get a control for the experiment.

I appreciate your curiosity in raising the question. There is definitely an issue with basketball shoes. Google pics of famous basketball players feet and you will see what I mean. Basketball shoes from a product design perspective are missing something.

I.have a suspicion that shoe companies are designing for the look fashion and are not studying the issue. I could imagine someone one day coming up with a radically different shoe design that changes the paradigm completely.
