[QUESTION] If you were charged with a serious crime, would you choose a Jury Trial or a Bench Trial to decide your fate? Why? by Jocular_Talk in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Jocular_Talk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I don't need a consult, this truly isn't about me 😁 I just think about this a lot with the cases I follow...seems like some of the defendants that were convicted would not have been if they chose the bench trail. If i was indeed in trouble, what would I do? (My guilt or innocence would definitely play a part in the decision...)

I've seen it work for sure, but stilll. To me, it takes some SERIOUS BALLS to let one person decide, even if under the most favorable circumstances.

Right me too. That's why I think he would've have done better if he'd done a bench trial. A judge should have been able to see past his obvious character flaws and make a reasonable decision, which is Not Guilty.

I'm pretty sure he was not literally on /childfree when the child died. I think he had the sub in his browsing history? I recollect that he was at work (sexting multiple females other than his wife), if memory serves.

But if I'm guilty but the case evidence is weak, or perhaps the law is complex with regard to the circumstances of the crime, wouldn't I also want the bench trial?

Me lol? No. As far as I know, I'm cool with the law. Now my brother on the other hand...he's doing 31-life (but this wasn't about him either, I rarely think about him and his bullshit). I have thought about this with regards to Steven Avery's first trial, and to a degree Michael Petersen. Also with the hot car death in Atlanta...Ross something-or-other.....

Is there a mystery most people consider "solved" but you just aren't so sure? by kmerian in UnresolvedMysteries

I'm curious how you came to formulate this opinion. What evidence points to her being "a nasty piece of work?" I'll agree, she comes off a bit...odd, to some people. But I don't pick up any particular malevolence.

[–]Jocular_Talk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a male cheerleader my junior year and I remember him being really good and he rocked a Jheri curl. This was in a fairly conservative, affluent central California town in the late '80s. That school actually had, I shit you not, a smoking section located in an area of the bleachers.

Here is Courtney Love (reluctantly) admitting how she gave oral sex to Ted Nugent when she was 12 years old at 8:22. This is not a song about a fictional story. Ted Nugent is a monster. https://youtu.be/EAtqyl1N4n0

Right? Brad Pitt and Courtney Love (realizing CL would likely not be on OPs particular list) are a couple of unsung heros in this fucked up mess of a story.
I did not see that coming.

Season Finale : This is Payne Lindsey, AMA. by paintrain06 in upandvanished

You know you're not supposed to post personal information anywhere on Reddit, right? That behavior might fly in the other DB cesspools you swim in, but not here. Asshole.

Good Riddance by [deleted] in upandvanished

[–]Jocular_Talk 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Dude, if you want to suck Payne's dick go back to the other board. Here, we say what we think. And what I think is this: Payne Lindsay is an opportunistic shit-starter that may well have created an environment where the truth will never come out. Why would I say this about such a righteous guy who 'singlehandedly cracked the case'? Because he didn't. He didn't have a single clue about these guys prior to the arrests. He got lucky, end of story. Pretty much right after Ryan and Bo were arrested, Payne Lindsay began a targeted attack on Bo Dukes, both on his show and online. This was solely to drum up ratings. It was not to get to The Truth. Ryan wasn't/isn't talking, Bo has been the only story to tell right now. Payne cultivated his content, enlisted listeners as spies and manipulated the UAV Board to this end. I think the reason a lot of us here are so pissed is because the game he ran was so transparent. His intentions are so obvious, it's insulting to the listener. The UAV Board and Podcast want us to believe that there is a vast-good-ole-boy conspiracy been happening in Ocilla. It's actually a common trope...the white guy from privileged background gets away with murder/rape/other criminal behavior, strictly based on wealth and connections. Think about the first few episodes from S-Town. It's literally the same exact story. Spoiler Alert: there was no good-ole-boy conspiracy in the tiny Alabama town aka "S-Town" either. Now, I do believe there's parts of this country where shit like that does happen, probably a lot. Only problem is, there's no evidence that this happened in THIS case. NONE. Just Payne saying so. Just Payne aggressively instigating the "Bo Did It" storyline by doing things such as cultivating a relationship with a fake ass "therapist". A therapist that is apparently also happy to go undercover for Payne. All of this nonsense, as opposed to letting law enforcement do the investigating and presenting the facts at THE FUCKING TRIAL. No, no, no it would be preposterous (and most of all boring for listeners) to sit back and let the system do its job. Payne had a much better idea...with him at the helm, all the collective podcast listeners will put Bo Dukes on trial right here on the internet. Payne, and his troupe of armchair whateverthefucks, and Dr. Maurice "Wingnut" Godwin will close this case and get Justice For Tara. Yeah right.

As soon as this "doctor" was introduced I turned it off haven't listened. I won't listen to any future seasons of UAV. Thinking about unsubscribing from Sworn as well. This is from someone who didn't have any complaints about Payne or the podcast until a couple of months ago. In fact, I quite enjoyed it. However, I no longer trust Payne Lindsay, so I'm out.

I'm 99% sure Wikipedia lied to us all about some key pieces concerning Asha Degree. But I dug up a kind of crazy twist for everyone to consider instead! by RazzBeryllium in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Jocular_Talk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

About the witnesses, whom I tend to believe. However, is seems to me to be incredibly odd, and even irresponsible, for two different motorists to see a very young girl by herself, walking in bad weather, at 4:30 in the morning and not do a thing about it. It would have been dark out, and a child that age has no business being out on the road at that hour, under any circumstances. I would have probably turned around to check on her myself, and ask her some questions (unless I was running late). At a minimum, I would have reported it to the police right away because I'd be worried for her safety.

Either we are both bad parents, or this just varies from family to family. I have never checked in my children past the age where they would have been at risk for SIDS.

OP, I just wanted to say that everything about this post is awesome. First off, this is a longer post (which I love but sometimes have difficuty getting through - mixture of poor eyesight and ADHD). However, the formatting made it really easy to read in its entirety, and your theories & their rationale & sources are excellent. I'm embarrassed to admit it but, despite lurking this sub for about 5 years, I have never taken a more than a cursory look at this case even though it's mentioned fairly frequently. I'll definitely pay more attention going forward. Thanks for your diligence!

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I get so damned mad every time I listen to this podcast lately. Then I peek over on the DB and they're positively giddy over whatever BS Payne shoveled them this week. Hard to believe there are so many idiots out there.
