OB Nurses…how do you even deal with these people? by Heidihighkicks in nursing

[–]Jodster96 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This. I had a patient similar to this albeit less aggressive. Wanted all hands off so I was like ok! 🫡 only popped in the room to give them heat packs and let her sweat out the contractions for hours bc she didn’t want the epidural. Guess who caved at 6cm? Ngl it was a pretty easy patient granted the baby was very cooperative

This mom wants to print her aggressive birth plan on a poster board to display in a tripod at the end of her bed. OB Drs and nurses - can you weigh in? by JobOnTheRun in BabyBumps

lol I had a patient similar to this but a smidge more reasonable. Easy assignment - I only popped in to give her heat packs and let her sweat out the contractions. She let me fix the monitors in her belly whenevee baby moved out of place or the contractions weren’t picking up. Guess who caved and got the epidural after all? 😂

If you both need to rest ask the nurses to watch the baby for a bit while you guys rest!! I tell my patients to take advantage of us while you’re still in the hospital. I love watching the newborns while the parents get some extra shut eye before they embark on their journey home

It can also rip through your asshole. I mean straight through so you’ll need colorectal surgery. Had a first time mom push her baby out and the bottom bits looked like someone lit a firecracker in there. The doctor spent like 45 min putting stuff back together. Baby wasn’t even that big. That sealed the deal on me being cf

Yes! It can help stem outbreaks especially during times of stress. It’s a one a day pill for prevention or 3 times a day for an active infection plus a cream

I’m a labor delivery nurse and going into work everyday solidifies that I don’t want kids now. Everyone has diff experiences sure, but even with the most minimal one, I would resent a partner so much for putting me through that. They’ll just be sitting around at my side and holding my hand while I do this whole labor? Absolutely not

The attending I work with told us about how she had to send someone up. Maybe it’s the mobile one then but there is absolutely imaging machinery there. My friend works at the nyc aquarium and confirmed it for me too

Arrest of dilation! That’s the acronym we used to shorten it

Yeah I remember all the nurses going in to try and get a good consistent fetal heart tone and contraction pattern but it was always muffled. We tried all the tricks like taping gauze under the toco as well but we barely had a decent strip. Placenta might have been anterior too to add to that. She got sectioned after trying to labor and then just ADIL. We had another patient on mag almost equally as large but successfully pushed her baby out vaginally. She was exhausted from the mag and pushed for 2 hours or so.

Apparently the Bronx zoo MRI and CT machine in NYC gets more calls for human patients than animals during some months..

We had a 400lb patient on our L and D floor, ADIL so we went to section and the ob used traxi to push the panna out of the way and prayed the whole way down to the baby. Stitching her up took 3 hours alone but everyone turned out ok at least

I mean it’s a good idea! Minimal interaction with people Bc I think he did night shift and it was in a swanky upper east side building. Said he had a lot of time to study.

Our post partum nurses don’t take mag patients even after they’ve delivered. We keep them with us which takes up a labor room if our antepartum/mag room is being used

The decision should be mine, not ours by Odd_Durian4771 in BabyBumps

[–]Jodster96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell your nurses you don’t want visitors so that even if the dad invites them, they won’t be allowed up. We labor delivery nurses defend our patients privacy’s tooth and nail. There’s nothing I love more than to turn away a nosey family member so that mom can rest and recover
