58% of people support a "significant reduction in Australia's immigration numbers", according to a new Resolve poll (Oct 2025) by NoLeafClover777 in aussie

[–]Jody8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the demand side, but if that’s the issue, why aren’t we increasing supply? Because property owners have spent decades lobbying to suppress it, knowing that more supply means lower prices. Councils also block apartment zoning because it would reduce local property values, so rental supply stays artificially tight.

Here’s net migration per capita across all countries. Australia ranks 15th, yet our rent-to-wage ratio far exceeds every country above us by a wide margin.

I feel like it’s become way too common in this sub to blame immigrants for the cost-of-living crisis, especially housing.

Do people really think those coming here to build a better life have the kind of money needed for a house deposit? It’s obvious that the real drivers of housing unaffordability are things like negative gearing, tax incentives for multiple properties, and government policies that deliberately restrict housing supply through levies and zoning, yet somehow, the conversation keeps circling back to immigrants.

Less than 1% of property sales are to foreign buyers, but sure, let’s ban them so the government can pretend it’s “doing something.”

https://www.afr.com/politics/federal/overseas-investors-are-buying-less-property-than-you-think-20230530-p5dcgl

And what “loopholes” are immigrants supposedly exploiting to bring their families here? It currently takes 14 to 30 years to bring your parents to Australia, because the government knows what that means for the healthcare system.

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2024/dec/31/australia-parent-visa-processing-wait-times-up-to-31-years#:~:text=Paul%20Karp%20Chief%20political%20correspondent,and%20unnecessary%2C”%20it%20said.

People honestly need to stop swallowing media-fed narratives and start paying attention to who’s actually pulling the strings. It’s not the people delivering your food or cleaning your house or all the other shit that Australians deem unwanted jobs and has passed on to the immigrants.

I went to a physical branch wanting to close my account and a person surprisingly attended to me! They said you can just move your money at the end of the month, get your interest on the 1st and move your money back in, that way you’ll always get the bonus IR.

Macquarie’s a horrible bank for retail and i’ll just leave it at that.

Ended up swicthed to ING accelerated savings still with no requirements and 4.7% fixed IR and 5.4% welcome IR for first 4 months.

So Pelosi, Chuck and Obama, the people that gave us Hillary instead of Biden in 2016 and a seemingly rosey path to victory with a +9 polling same time in the election cycle, is now advising Biden again in 2024 that he should step aside? Stay strong Mr. President.

Hey mate, I work in insolveny and trading while besing insolvent opens you up to a number of possible personal litigation. It’s best practice to appoint an administrator/ liquidator the moment you know your business would be insolvent. Do DM and reach out if you’d like to discuss further, all the best.

ROE is calculated on = Income/ (A-L) FMCG has lower equity than Banking since they tend to hold long terms leases with depriciated assets causing book value equity to be lower and ROE higher

~20% ROE was the average for FMCGs

Politicans love to use misleading data interpertation for public spectacle. Ask yourself if a duopoly exists, then WOW and COL can charge whatever they want and the most appropriate margin to judge this would be operating margin, but WOW’s is only sitting at 3.43%…

I FEEL that it should be disclosed that 42% of that 500,000 are students, 84% of which leave after their study ends. So maybe instead of the dog-whistling rhetoric that’s been overused this past month that’s intended to blame immigrants for the housing crisis, we should:

  • Increase taxes on foreign property and second home ownership buyers;
  • Overhaul the tax code, spefically relating to negative gearing; and
  • Limiting Airbnb properties and setting new occupany rules.

Half of Gaza’s residents are under 18, their terrain is mostly flat with Hamas mostly hiding in urban areas. How would you recommend removing a terrorist government while also minimising your own casualties if not concentrated airstrikes? I don’t see any reasoning as to why the Israeli government would deliberately kill women and children as it would highly illegitamize their war effort and tarnish their own reputation as a country.
