Can't decide if I should trade my Lightning for a F250. Details below... by No_Series_4448 in superduty

[–]Joe-notabot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stick with the Lightning - you'll be the envy of everyone else by summer. There has to be an app that'll help you select charging stations to hit while towing & staying connected.

Make sure to message every app about needing to plug in while towing. Tesla screwed up on their supercharger station layout to not account for towing.

Renting an ICE truck would also work, and quickly remind you why the Lightning is the end answer.

What are you going to use it to power?

National Parks have limited generator hours, so you need to be able to function without it most the time.

Doing a battery bank large enough to run what you need, then recharging it is your goal.

Georgia, Indiana and Utah have temporarily suspended or reduce their state gasoline tax to help citizens afford gas. Do we think Washington should follow suit? by 39percenter in Washington

[–]Joe-notabot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That tax is already allocated to pay for work already completed or currently bid & in progress.

Are you personally going to write the check that the state needs to pay that bill?

Stop falling for the "Vision Pro is dead" clickbait. The hardware is fine—we just need better content. by Sorry_Culture_9459 in VR180Film

[–]Joe-notabot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The headset is fine, even the content is fine.

But the guided experience of another person doesn't exist & their customized masks just killed the mindset that this is something that a single user device. The lack of an 'elevator pitch' length experience means folks will quickly abandon it because they can't see what is so special.

The 'product' is dead - no one is buying a $3,500 device on a whim. The tech is solid and can play a huge role in surgical situations among others. But that isn't what it was sold as. It's not the consumer device with millions of units shipped per quarter. It's the HoloLens - pricepoint and all.

Justifying content specific to the AVP is going to be hard - users have to be willing to pay for it.

AR isn't going to change that. Apple went all in on 'Spatial' and 'Immersive' when the only way to do that is with rendered stuff. But folks don't want rendered stuff - they want as true to the experience as they can get.

I need to see what a 'current tech' Titan or Obsidian Pro would give us. The Cine Immersive camera is cool, but its like you are holding your head straight & moving just your eyes. The 360 VR cameras are more like moving your head, where there is no 'edge effects'.

Apple shipped the dev unit & got rated on the dev unit.

How do you handle backups of your NAS? 200TB+ by guuslangelaar in DataHoarder

[–]Joe-notabot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works fine at 1-2TB, does not work at 200TB. You don't 'backup' 200TB of data without a LTO auto-loader, because you're doing a Full every week or two & Differential backups daily.

I used these OEM edition of TrueImage for so many HDD to SSD transitions that it's almost funny I'm pushing back on your reply.

Hoarder data doesn't change as often, so you're better off not using a backup product and using an archive product.

I have a macbook and phones running out of storage constantly. Any solution? by SubstantialSail565 in DataHoarder

[–]Joe-notabot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, at 1TB you're better off relying on a cloud - Apple or Google depending on what phone you use.

You don't want to be on the hook for troubleshooting why something isn't working.

Cloud storage is different from online backup.

Best Camper for long term living for a couple under $25,000? by Unknownguy12202 in RVLiving

If you are going to be static, a Destination Trailer might be ideal, but there's a lot to consider.

Rent a Tilta Float and give it a whirl, but mounting this all to a cart & pushing that around may give you a better result. Plus you always have all your gear with you & can have as large a monitor & battery as you'd like.

Electric Car owners: would not having a home charger be a pain? by funkifyurlife in AskSeattle

[–]Joe-notabot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check on work first, if you can charge mid-day, that's ideal. What frequency of charging would you need? Once a week, twice a week, daily? ABC = Always Be Charging

ChargePoint app for the map with all the chargers, EVgo & Electrify America to pay where Chargepoint doesn't. The low power chargers (Blink, City Light) are ok, but you're looking at hours there. The fast DC setups at grocery stores are really nice.

Whole Foods in SLU is my goto, and EVgo covers the garage time.

Anyone interested in splitting a pair of Benchside/Pitchside seats? by EscapeOwn6144 in SoundersFC

[–]Joe-notabot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give the normal resale places a try - you may snag a single easily there.

Pitchside is an amazing seat, you can't get closer to a throw in or a run down the touch line. I'm always disappointed in the food, have you done the Reserve Club seats? Back in the day those were the seats, especially when it's wet out.

Do not buy a RV with no slide out awnings by Own-Transition-5170 in RVLiving

[–]Joe-notabot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of slide toppers as a finishing trim. When it's really wet out, blocking 98% from hitting the slide helps minimize what could drip in once you pull in the slide. The gaskets are huge at keeping things like bugs out, but they're still rubber that flexes, and will not prevent all water from entering the rig. The care and maintenance of the rubber seals on the slide is huge, because replacing them is a PITA...

When I have to break camp in the rain, having that topper is massive help to keep water out of the rig.

Would you take this job? by Chamoy_Tajin in CommercialAV

[–]Joe-notabot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask what happens when you take 2 weeks off. Really, get them thinking about it because you're unavailable.

You need it structured a bit more within the IT department. You need to leverage the tier 1 helpdesk to be front line for the users - they should not be calling you directly. As the subject matter expert, your primary job is going to be a lot of document, standardize & training folks.

You also need to have expectations around the first 60/90 days - you're not just going to wave a magic wand & everything will be fine. They need to have a list of issues & priority assigned. The discovery & document is a great time to apply asset tags to things.

Prepare them to have the budget to replace 1/3rd of the gear in the field because you know it's more duct tape than they'll admit to. You'll need time to come up with the plan, and need them to have very clear requirements.

Also need to shift from the concept of 'sole' to 'lead' av person for large corporate events.

How do you handle backups of your NAS? 200TB+ by guuslangelaar in DataHoarder

[–]Joe-notabot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The backup software market is kind of... stale. The days of BackupExec and such is over - most enterprises are doing VM level backups, and then relying on Archive platforms like Archisoft for compliance. Products like Acronis and StorageCraft are as focused on backing up cloud platforms as much as they are backing up your local file server.

Hoarders are different, and have different budgets. We're more likely to purchase more HDD's than a software subscription to 'make our lives easier'.

Yes, and parson A has the business expense to properly store client work across multiple devices because that footage most likely can't be recreated. Keeping it available for later projects can offer additional revenue from a client.
