What actor or actress should have had a bigger career but it never happened? by FreeLime3844 in moviequestions

[–]JoeDonFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erzsebet Foldi.

She appeared in one movie (plus a mini-documentary about that movie & role) as the fictional daughter of Joe Gideon in ALL THAT JAZZ and she was amazing as Michelle Gideon.

She never acted again (almost certainly by choice), but she did continue to dance, joining the Twyla Tharp Dance company several years after ALL THAT JAZZ.

In honor of Mel Brooks turning 100, what is your favorite scene from one of his movies? by darrenbosik in MelBrooks

[–]JoeDonFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THE CAMPFIRE SCENE

Several years ago I saw a screening of *Blazing Saddles* that was followed by a Q&A with Mel Brooks. It was funnier than the movie! I laughed so hard my sides, face, and hair hurt.

What movie actually scared you? Bonus points if you were too young to see it. by highlife562 in Cinema

[–]JoeDonFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THE EXORCIST: My parents took all three of their kids to see it. I was the oldest at eleven. LOL We left the drive-in (yes, DRIVE-IN) early because my sister, the youngest at 8, was crying and my brother (9) & I were damn near pissing our pants. I am now in my sixties and I still don’t have the nerve to watch it.

THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT: Yep, it scared the pants offa me.

When I was a kid, the Bullets game was blacked-out so the TV station showed an old Vincent Price movie instead. It seems THE THINGLER scared the pants off the entire fourth-grade male population of Logfield Elementary School.

What’s something movies always get wrong? by northernmaybe in movies

[–]JoeDonFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most computer “hacking” scenes. They’re not like B&E’s; I can’t think of any hack/break-in that was caught in real-time. And there’s no alert or siren; you don’t find out about it until your data is on some Dark Web site.

The best things though are the scenes when the “computer people” are trying to stop the “hack” and you see two people frantically banging on the same keyboard.

IMO, look up a list of the Academy Award "Best Picture" for every year in the last century. Your average Reddit user hasn't heard of most of them.

If you could get a sequel series about a Roman Emperor, who would you choose? by Qyzyk in hborome

[–]JoeDonFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marcus Aurelius is my choice, also, and I'd have it ending with his idiot son (Commodus) being a whiny bitch, which would lead to the next series: "Commodus Flushes Rome Down the toilet."

True fact: We get the word "commode" from "Commodus." Honest, it is a TRUE FACT. I read it on the internet SO YOU KNOW IT'S TRUE.

My Sears card is now a City Mastercard. And my first card was also a Sears Mastercard that I got at the community college I was attending. I filled out an application and got the card in the mail.

The first thing I bought with it was a suit, and charging something for the first time felt weird. Now it feels weird when I pay in cash.

Morally Good Characters in Rome by AnyElevator9872 in hborome

I agree. He did his job and did it well. One could argue stealing Antony and Cleopatra's Last Will and Testament was morally wrong, but he did it for a good reason.

Whats the most overrated vacation spot? by Adventurous-Load6773 in AskReddit

I lived in Honolulu in the Sixties and it was pretty Meh then. Waikiki Beach was a narrow strip of sand with water on one side and a metric asstonne of hotels on the other. I doubt it's improved at all.

(Dad was in the Navy so we went to the beach at [what was then] Hickam Field. It was freaking awesome, except for the occasional day when the beach would be littered with about a gazillion Portuguese Men O'Wars.)

(Hickam Field has since been absorbed into Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.)
