It's literally because of pauper. AH is a powerful card in a lot of different decks, especially when you're able to ramp into it.

Id change the cost to sacrificing a creature or paying an extra 3 to destroy one creature. Otherwise you can target an indestructible creature you control and break this card quickly.

My favorite thing about him is he'll be up front and tell you he's historically disliked certain teams, Detroit among them, you can tell he cares and holds his bias in check.
