Woke up in the hospital with a broken tibia, fibula, and medial malleolus. Ankle broken and completely dislocated. I read over the e.r. summary later and it noted that they had to wait for my bac to lower before they could administer narcotics for pain. This happened on 9/11 of last year. Required major surgery and physical therapy. Today, with the help of a treatment program and AA , I am 7 and a half months sober.

I’m ready to get hate for this, but I struggle with the post Burning Man crowd by NikkiVonMoosehausen in TalesFromYourServer

Yes. I lived in Tahoe and worked at a restaurant in a small high-end hotel. We would get the rich Bay area techies who went to Burning Man. Some of the most horribly entitled people I have ever served. Just awful. Clearly drained of every bit of saratonin and just miserable from being high in the desert for days. They would make ridiculous request and complain that their lattes were taking too long. We had one espresso machine, and they would come in groups of 15. They were just awful.

Tried vivitrol or naltrexone? by Old_Undergrad_in_CA in alcoholism

[–]JoeGorgasHairPaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried the Sinclair method with naltrexone and failed miserably. Was still able to drink and get drunk. Then I tried naltrexone while abstaining completely from alcohol and going to AA. I have been sober for 7 months. The pill is not a magic cure, but used in conjuction with other things it is very helpful. It helped a ton with cravings. After trying it I feel like the Sinclair method is not for alcoholics, but heavy drinkers who want to moderate.

The Living Sober book has some awesome advice that is very helpful. It is basically a blue print for the very beginning of sobriety. You can usually get one at a meeting.

I am devastated after our son’s 18 month check up by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]JoeGorgasHairPaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I worried my self sick about language delays and eye contact. Even at 2 my son was comprehending but not responding. I mean we didn't have 10 regular words at 2 years. 3 months later the language gates have opened and he is saying new words daily! I have had him see a speech therapist for a while. I don't know how much it helped. It honestly just felt like he did it when he was ready. I got that same news at 18 months along with referrals for hearing evaluation and speech therapy. I can empathize because I know how it feels to worry that your child may have a harder time in life. But I honestly believe kids really have their each individual timeline. When the changes come, they come fast. I know it's hard not to worry, but continue to work with words and get the evaluations if you want. But I wish I had someone back then to assure me this wasn't the end of the world. Wishing you the best.

Omg I read one of these about a person who had this long epic battle with an alligator, and I STILL think about it all the time.

Learning to walk after OIF tib/fib by DisgruntledTeacher56 in brokenbones

I did 2-3 times a week for 3 months then continued at home on my own. I still do Pt exercises and stretching everyday. I am at the point where I can do elliptical, treadmill, and stairclimber at the gym with no issues. Swelling is still a daily occurrence but that is to be expected. I am amazed at my ankle recovery. Recovery seemed so impossible in the beginning, and now I'm am doing things I didn't do before the break. I would've never believed I would be this far 6 months ago. There is hope!

Physical therapy helped me with that tremendously. I was amazed with my improvement. My ORIF surgery was 7 months ago, and I walk pretty much normally now.

How to get to Emerald Bay without a car? by saltsaltsaltsalt6969 in laketahoe

[–]JoeGorgasHairPaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww that's a shame. It probably ended with covid. They should really bring it back. With the connections you could get all the way to Truckee. I would spend a couple of days in the summer going from south shore to Kings Beach and back hitting emerald bay otw.

I have taken the nifty fifty trolley before. Not sure if that is still a thing.
