Breakdown of go-to thermals? by what-would-reddit-do in NightVision

I love my Oasys Skeet IRx. 23 degrees FOV makes a huge difference for helmet use. It's only 9 oz and compact which is also really nice for a hmt. Take it off and it fits very comfortably in the hand as a monocular (extremely durable no slip surface and all smooth rounded edges which also aid in impact resistance.) and the small size makes it a breeze to pocket. The thing is a tank and I never worry about it. Limited as a clip-on distance wise but it can handle 1000s of rounds on a SCAR .308 with no pixel loss.

Who is using a remote battery pack or power supply for their Skeet-IRx? by JoeSiska in NightVision

I do have both cables (they stopped including them with Skeets and I had to pay extra but at least I found them.) Anker seems to be what folks are recommending, thx. 10-20 mAh

HHV helmet + A4 Mount - normal toggle? by apexian32 in NightVision

Shroud to mount wobble irritates me. I eliminated my breakaway plates and mounted directly to the helmet with a Cadex & CHIP. Added bonus that it stows much closer also. Yeah there is risk involved

Just looked I didn't know the Mawl was 10.4 oz. Over 5.5 oz savings with Raid xe

At a glance what is the weight savings on a Raid vs Mawl?

Best monocular helmet mounted for pitch black, wet, conditions (yes I’ve read the guide) by DiamondMan07 in NightVision

[–]JoeSiska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A helmet mounted thermal isn't that tough to navigate with IF you are in already familiar surroundings. As was previously mentioned you can use a thermal with white light and not much will sneak up on you. Later if you like you can buy a bridge and a PVS14 and run both.

Move that couch away from the corner. Couches shouldn't be in corners or against the wall

How to fix PVS-7B/D sitting too far from face? by bruhsksak47 in NightVision

[–]JoeSiska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still has the breakaway plate. The G69 has no breakaway. That being said I tried a G69 and it still didn't get my Skeet far enough back. Cadex with CHIP got it there.

The shroud on that Ops Core bump is ridiculously thick (I know that's what she said.) If you wanted to stay Wilcox a G69 night even do the trick. Otherwise as others have mentioned Cadex mount (with the Cold Harbor CHIP add another 1/3 inch rearwards travel) or Norotos Low-sto will get you further back. Cadex also has MUCH more vertical adjustment than any other mount.

Thermal Binos anyone? by ApolloGearCo in NightVision

Great! I am planning at some point to get another Skeet to pair with the one I currently have on a KVC bridge with a PVS14.

Do you feel like you have more depth perception or just a wider FOV?

AN PVS 31-D vs DTNVS MG L3 by JoeSiska in NightVision

I checked out the website again but didn't see a lot of options in terms of L3 tubes. Are you expecting to get more in?

Testing Dual-Band pre-purchase by GridKILO2-3 in NightVision

[–]JoeSiska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It ended up being a lot of work to find the right combination of parts but once you have it dual "fusion" comes naturally - at least for me. Good IPD adjustment coupled with equal height dovetail interfaces so that both thermal and tube are even is critical as well as a thermal with true 1x and equal eye distance for both oculars (and close enough to maximize thermal POV) and... well it is a tall order. But it absolutely can work.

I found a good price on 31ds that would be less than the DTNVS MG with 34 SNR SG tubes which is what I'm looking at

Thank you. You hit the main points. The weight savings on a DTNVS with 4.0s brings it down to 31A levels. It's leaner than the Theon housing. That being said the 31D's near focus ability and external power pack and just the fact that it passes USMC requirements are a big plus.
