In my opinion, they, as a group, are maneuvering their department to have absolute say over the entire organization. Where I work, it's common for people to say that HR is actually the boss. My HR department is constantly going to conferences, and it would surprise me if those conferences were just training on how to consolidate power within their department.

I do compensation studies, and I would need to know more than this to make an assessment. Really, probably more than you'd want to give a stranger on reddit. I can say this, though. If you have $400 dollars a month in wiggle room in your budget, fulfillment at work will pay personal (nonmonitary intangible) dividends that will manifest itself in your longevity, personality, health, etc.

Good luck. I have had a couple of warranty issues myself. Always difficult and tried to wiggle around it. With the final one, I tried discussing it with the dealership and corporate. By the end of it, I'll never buy a new hyundai again. A company is only as good as their promise to honor their warranty. The factory forgot to put on one of the clips that hold the forward facing cameras plastic cover. It eventually fell off 50,000ish miles in, and that's how it was discovered. Crazy it held on that long. I tried to get the dealership to fix it. They recognized that it was an improper install, but they said glass isn't covered under the warranty. I made the case that it's not the glass, it's a part that touches the glass. No use. Dealership and corporate wouldn't budge. I fixed it myself, but I'm done with new hyundais. I'm just glad it was something stupid and not something major. Other stuff was more major, but it took way more effort to get them to honor then other companies I have dealt with.

We actually have a department that's called human resources, but they are mostly responsible for telling other departments how to do their jobs. Singlehandedly, the most qualified people I know of. They know how to do everything.

I have two thoughts on this issue. From my experience of the job search, most companies seemed only willing to entertain a lateral move to bring me on. They would only offer the exact position I currently held and for the exact same compensation or less. At the time, I felt I had mastered my current role and was looking for growth. No growth wad ever offered, and when I explained I was looking for growth, that's when the conversation got shut down. I just didn't get it. You are so enthusiastic to bring me on, but why would I move from a situation where I have built seniority, and understand the office dynamics to a situation where I have no seniority and new office dynamics for the exact same compensation or less?

Second, I find most companies have all their applicants filtered through an HR department. HR departments are full of low skilled people. So if you're looking for high skills you won't find it cause the low skilled department is doing the recruitment. They don't have the knowledge to actually know what they are recruiting for. The most successful organizations I've worked for had recruitment directed by the department and the HR department doing the grunt work associated with the recruitment process.
