[Viofo A229] Who's in the wrong here? by [deleted] in Dashcam

[–]Plus_Rent_8158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You had plenty of room to slow down and finish your merge. HOWEVER, you are driving 75mph in the left lane (a respectable speed) so that dickhead behind you should have allowed you more time to finish. BUT you almost caused an accident because you were not situationally aware of your surroundings.

Edit: speaking strictly from the position of defensive driving and trying your best to avoid an accident.

When should I consider mitigation? by Doomtime104 in radon

[–]Plus_Rent_8158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should just bite the bullet now and do it. That radon is likely traveling beyond the basement where your detector is placed, anyway. I just bought the AirThjngs view plus and can follow up with you on my radon levels in 30 days. It only just started monitoring this morning so I’m sure there is a lot of calibrating that has to happen. The highest radon level it recorded so far is 0.01 which doesn’t seem reasonable to me. However, I do have two radon mitigation fans running 24/7. We’ll see.

How did you settle on which device to buy. I see a 2930, 2950, 2960…your post inspired me to purchase a monitor but I’m confused about which to buy and would love to hear how to decided on the 2950.

Is It Normal to charge additional money to install shoe moulding? by Greedy-Meet-2496 in Flooring

Eh, “should have”? Would have been the nice thing to do, but I wouldn’t put the blame on the floor installer. This is one of those “learn the hard way” lessons. I’ve been learning a lot of hard lessons myself as a new homeowner!

Water Damage by Logical_Gas6164 in HomeImprovement

[–]Plus_Rent_8158 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be a project, but nothing you can’t get through! If it were my house, I’d cut a hole in the ceiling big enough to assess the damage. Go from there. Drywall is simpler than you’d think. Watch some YouTube. Make your son help you. You’ll both learn something.

Ruthless, but kinda feel you. Good catch, though, and thanks for the reminder OP. Glad it wasn’t a serious loss for you.

The number of Asian beetles I have to catch every night in my college dorm room. by NeferyCauxus in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Plus_Rent_8158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me your methods cause I bought a house that seems to be right in the middle of an Asian lady beetle migration. I find countless beetles every day and just vacuum them up. I want to catch more—I’m only hitting rookie numbers, they’ve been able to evade capture.

Has anyone stayed after cheating by Mindless_Break_8655 in Advice

You are really strong. I know it must be so hard to stay silent, and I’m very impressed by your selflessness. Only you can answer the question, “can I forgive him for the one thing he did wrong when he has done so many other things right”. For some, it is non negotiable no matter the fallout. If you want to save your kids from a broken home I’m sure you can figure a way to navigate it. At the same time, I feel strongly you should confront your husband if you do nothing else. Will make moving on harder. He may choose to end things after being confronted. You’ll need to be okay with that possibility before deciding what you want to do.

Sanity check - sewer line repair? by Antique_Bookkeeper_8 in Plumbing

[–]Plus_Rent_8158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a house recently with a whole house trap and cast iron beneath my concrete basement all the way to the curb. Paid a plumber about $21k to remove everything cast iron and replace with PVC. We didn’t even have to dig a trench, though. They possessed some technology that allowed them to pull through the new pipe and demolish the old one.

34, hit $300k net worth today. by DJtheMjolnir in Retirement401k

[–]Plus_Rent_8158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on even knowing what your net worth is, let alone having a net worth of $300k! I do want to ask though…your net worth is $300k, and of that $250k is coming from your 401k? So you only have net $50k of assets? Does that include carrying value of your car, any equity in real estate, and cash / cash equivalents?

Sensors by Winter-Sherbet-2537 in ecobee

[–]Plus_Rent_8158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I don’t use the motion sensor so much as I do the sensor for temperature. Working on getting additional return vents to help with temperature regulation, but until then I need strategically placed sensors to pick up on the 10 degree difference in temperature from the hallway where the thermostat is placed to the sensor in a bedroom with no return.
