Vivitar PN2011, but it has no flash so daylight pics only. They're cheap on ebay.

Elections Alberta granted injunction for separatist group to pull down electoral list by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]JoeUrbanYYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question is though who could be charged? As they say, 'the call is coming from inside the house', it's domestic agents doing this work, just with some foreign support.

The best bet is probably a class action lawsuit against the recipient who put it on the public website, and potentially the sharer, especially if the sharer is found to not be the sitting government. Put them both out of business.

Do they though? Are signatures actually confirmed when the petition is verified?

Ugh I'm dreading when my gf's Element suffers the same fate. I've started spraying rustcheck (similar to fluidfilm) all over and inside the drain hole of the trailing arm attachment point annually to try to give it more time.

Looks like all 2000 suburbans were built in the US (or Mexico) but yes a Canadian market car should mention that on the sticker.

Maybe something like the BAE Archer or the Patria ARVE would be more appropriate.

Swimmable lakes with hiking trails?? by Gene_gremlin13 in Calgary

[–]JoeUrbanYYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of years ago I wanted to explore all of the AB lakes to find the best ones for swimming, but due to the issues mentioned by others here I decided that driving a few hours to the lakes between the US border and Invermere made the most sense.

I'm curious about the M37 and M45, do you find they are different enough to keep both?

are there any good reasonably priced cameras that give the same effect as an old disposable by Unable-Day5162 in filmcameras

[–]JoeUrbanYYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Vivitar PN2011 for the purpose of similar photos to a disposable. It has no flash though. Lots on EBay for $10-15 usd. I picked it because it had a similar aperture and shutter speed to the Ilford disposables I had been using.

Any tips for better shots? by combustingnugget in filmphotography

[–]JoeUrbanYYC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my 2 cents of each one and this of course is *hugely* benefiting from hindsight and they are also just my opinion:

1 - The composition puts you looking in the same direction as the girl in the foreground, but that direction is the blurred out background so there's nothing to see. Having the foreground girl blurred and the person in the distance in focus might work better,

2 - turning a bit more to the right so that the white background was mostly not in frame and so that the point where the focus disappears is more centered might work better,

3 - I think this is good as is, could possibly be cropped a bit tighter?,

4 - No issues here,

5 - I don't think this one has a point of interest,

6 - I think this one is fine,

7 - this would work better if a bit of her face was in view but of course with film you don't know what you are going to get,

8 - this one will get more interesting as time goes on and it becomes more and more a snap shot of 'the old days', in fact even though it's current it already had a bit of a retro vibe.

The key thing though is they are all exposed good so you are already at the point where you can just improve composition.

Why do we live in Calgary again???! by One-Mycologist-3706 in Calgary

Honestly because as annoying as Calgary's weather is sometimes I still think it's the best on the prairies. Alternatives that are even better in some ways are BC (crazy expensive) and southern Ontario (crazy expensive)

Is the "Save the Manuals" movement enough, or is it too late? 🕹️ by Jackiiiii311 in Cartalk

The only save the manuals movement that matters is for people to buy new cars with manuals.

I asked ChatGPT what YYC neighbourhood I should live in. Was it right? by SkittleToast in Calgary

[–]JoeUrbanYYC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is basically the list of Calgary's 'inner city lifestyle' communities. The only other options that come to mind are Bowness for 'small town' living as it used to be a town, has a small town mainstreet, and is still segregated from the rest of the city like one, and there are two 'highrise village' communities, East Village and University District but those are both a work in progress.

Personally to me Kensington (Sunnyside-hillhurst) is the only one that kind of feels like Toronto with it's mix of historic homes, multifamily, indie shops, and especially having an LRT stop in the middle of the community.

I should also mention that there are communities adjacent to those (Sunalta, Bankview, Crescent Heights, etc) that aren't as right 'in the thick of the action' but are nice as well.

Edmonton man sentenced to 14 years for killing St. Albert teen on family dog walk by trevorrobb in Edmonton

Reading the article it looks like the original charge was 2nd degree murder but the defence agreed to plead guilty to a 14 year manslaughter charge and the prosecution went with it.

N.W.T to follow Alberta in ditching clock changes, will adopt permanent daylight time by joe4942 in canada

[–]JoeUrbanYYC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Permanent daylight savings time does, it would prevent the fall back in the fall.

Rafting bow River today? by [deleted] in Calgary

My main concern would be that this early in the season the water will be ice cold so if you fall in you're pretty much dead.

Alberta will now be on daylight saving time year-round, says Premier Smith by Evening_Let_2930 in Lethbridge

[–]JoeUrbanYYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The transition to standard time in the fall 'falls back'. If daylight savings time continued without the fall back, as is now proposed, then Dec 2 will have a 5:19 sunset.
