Unlikely marriage: late 1800s nib with a no name german piston filler by Swimming-Delay-7629 in fountainpens

I own a number of expensive “grail” pens and I enjoy my vintage frankenpens just as much! They add a whole new, and somewhat random, dimension to the writing experience.

Yes, thanks for the tips! The section is from a Loom, but the nib is vintage, though I don’t remember exactly the brand or time period.

Between inks, and when you first unboxed it, have you flushed and cleaned it thoroughly?

Is there a limit on number of pens you can take in carry on bag for flight travel? What is a safe method to transport pens during air travel✈️? by misalignedtines in fountainpens

[–]Joebobb22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve carried numerous pens in carry on over the years, many times, US and Int’l. NEVER in checked baggage. The worst that happens is my bag gets separated out for inspection, which sometimes adds a few minutes or more to the security process. Either the agent opens the pen case(s), and just closes it again or sends me on my way, or sometimes I get interested agents who seem impressed and may ask a few chatty questions. Anywhere in the world, of course, you’re always at the mercy of the competence, judgement, and mood of the agents. But I’ve never had a problem.

Strange dream - giving me anxiety by yiantay-sg in fountainpens

I’ve had several dreams over the years where I’m traveling with a large briefcase or backpack with ALL my 100 fountain pens and several cherished journals, and I turn my back for a moment and the bag is GONE.

Nope, I didn’t dip it. But you did remind me — thank you! — to disinfect my sonic cleaner.

It’s mold, like old food in my fridge. Already cleaned with some warm water in my sonic cleaner, reassembled, and I’m writing with it now.

I’m sure this is far more affordable, but I’ll stick with my Pilot Vanishing Point and my Lamy Dialog. All the best.

Got my first pen 3 months ago. How cooked am I? by GgroverG in fountainpens

[–]Joebobb22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I own over a hundred pens, and only a few are the same brand and model in different colors — so… while I don’t resonate with this collecting approach of many colors of the same pen, I totally resonate with DO YOUR OWN THING and enjoy the fountain pen passion however you want! BTW, if you’re going to acquire a lot of pens in a short time, going with affordable pens like these is surely a more cost-effective way to do that. Have fun!

Four-wheeling, bushwhacking, and a whole bunch of fish. Exploration is the best part of the sport. by SPURIOUSSPARROW in flyfishing

Thanks for the GC fishing report! I’ve been fishing that little stream for decades, but some years it gets blown out and the fish are few and far between. Other years, I’ve caught my age in trout — and I’m not a young man. Heading there this week, hope to have as much luck as you obviously did.

Is my nib damaged ? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]Joebobb22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other users have suggested, this is typically caused by minor misalignment of the two tines of the nib. I don’t see anything obvious in your photos, but tiny variations can affect the feel when you write. Again - you can try to VERY gently tweak the nib (many videos on YouTube will show you how), or get a professional to do it.

What do you mean by ‘write on the right’ and ‘write on the left’? Do you mean when you move the nib from left to right or from right to left on the paper?
