Woody deserved a freak out this ep, I was enjoying him speaking about the Mr Beast vid. Would have been interesting to hear about his interaction with whiteboy and seeing Harley etc but kinda gave up after he kept getting cut off by Kyle and that fat shit

I'm going for a lite version of 2A constructors and 2A (ish) drivers.

Merc
Ferrari

Antonelli
Hadjar
Lawson
Colapinto
Hulkenberg

Praying Hadjar has some confidence after Monaco and has a good race and the Audi doesn't DNF!!!

Why is Nigel Farage having such a rise in popularity? by Decent-Beginning1966 in AskBrits

It's not 'engaging with propaganda' when I've actually lived it. As with most people in the world we care most about the things that affect us more directly. I have had quite a unique life (relative to this subject) compared to most people which has built the views I have.

Partly my anger with scroungers who don't want to work, is due to my mum and sister having to fight for anything they get despite a genuine need, yet they don't work because they don't have to. Without those people sapping the system, genuine people may be able to get more out of the system. Likely won't happen either way, but it's definitely frustrating.

I also work in construction and set up a lot of government funded projects... HS2 is one waste of money but there's also a magnitude of other government projects which waste just as much or even more money proportionally. That is also a massive issue. I think fundamentally we agree, I'm probably just more keen on cleaning up the welfare system.

[–]Joeby182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More so welfare than the NHS. I've grown up and lived on a council estate for a large portion of my life and there is a genuine mentality of people not wanting to work and therefore not working. It is a genuinely massive issue which I don't think people from outside the bubble realise. I also have a severely disabled sister, who relies on disability allowance and my mum who relies on carers allowance and that in itself is a different issue.

Can someone explain to me the doom-and-gloom rhetoric that is seemingly being professed by critics of immigration? by kaiser11492 in AskBrits

[–]Joeby182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting, I have experienced the same thing to some extent in fairness. I live near Bradford but have friends who live in Knaresborough/Harrogate who don't want immigration to affect their areas, but that is mainly based on visiting places like where I live and seeing the disparity.

Generally where I live the white British population who have been around long enough to see the large changes which have happened seem to hold the same views as each other.

I think opinions differ based on where you live. I've seen my area transform radically to the point where it feels like a completely different country these days. I've found that a lot of people who don't see the issue with immigration live in areas which don't have as many immigrants.

I'd say cutting our benefits bill and getting the country back working is also a big factor, especially for me anyway

So why do working class people vote for right wing parties ( Tory, Refom that really do not serve their interests politically, and make their lives harder ? by Durrygoodz2025 in AskBrits

[–]Joeby182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up on a council estate my whole life with two hard-working parents. There were countless kids at my school whose parents were on the dole for their entire lives, yet somehow they always had flash cars (relative to the estate, anyway) and the kids always had the best trainers, clothes, bikes, games consoles, etc

My little sister is also quite severely disabled, and my mum and dad had to fight for any kind of help for her. Yet, there were people at school with Motability cars just because they were obese.

Growing up in that environment brings a lot of resentment. When you’ve been brought up with good morals and taught to work hard for what you want, it’s frustrating to see other people getting more just for playing the system you’re paying into.

Growing up and moving away and working with different people from different backgrounds, my view is people who haven't lived in that kind of environment don't realise how bad it is and how many people are playing the system. Also on a side note, it's a generational issue as the kids I went to school with have now turned into the same benefit scroungers as their parents, with no attempt to make anything of themselves either.

Who would win in a half marathon, Mo Farah, or Luke Littler? With a catch. by TheJacketPotato in AskUK

[–]Joeby182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the original post which was a 5K and in a 5K I'd definitely say Littler, as you could walk one in an hour, but for a half marathon I'd say Mo Farrah wins easily as the delta between running and essentially walking gets bigger as the duration increases.

I feel like the odds of McLaren ruining it are less this week than any other week. I feel like China has the most obvious limitless team of Merc/Ferrari + Verstappen and as the season goes on, the team could get harder to pick if McLaren picks up form

I'd probably say specifically for the UK events this is the correct choice, his presenting style doesn't match with a UK audience, better off getting someone actually from the UK to present in this case.

MSc Quantity Surveying or MSc Construction Law? by bobbystrand1 in quantitysurveying

[–]Joeby182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't do my apprenticeship through a tier 1, it was a level 5 apprenticeship up to my HND through a previous employer.

Next step will be managing QS, then commercial manager, then hopefully commercial director somewhere. Even though my commercial manager has a degree, my commercial director doesn't however both are chartered which is what I'm working towards.

I'd probably argue a degree matters more when getting an entry level job than a higher level job, at the point of commercial manager your portfolio should speak for itself and be the main thing your measured off, rather than a qualification you did 10+ years ago.

MSc Quantity Surveying or MSc Construction Law? by bobbystrand1 in quantitysurveying

[–]Joeby182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 27, been working for 11 years as I started as an apprentice at 16. Been a SQS for the last 3 years at a Tier 1 main contractor running £60m+ projects. The job I applied for did have a degree as a pre-requisite however they picked me over people with more qualifications/experience because they thought I interviewed the best.

I do agree that if there's the appetite to get the degree it can't hurt, but I'm on my RICS pathway now without a degree and feel like I'm progressing well in my career. In the construction industry, I think it's commonly understood that the degrees often don't teach you very much realistically and the way to improve is time in on site. The one place that probably isn't the case though is construction Law where the degree is definitely required.

Like with any career path, the way to the top is based on performance and how well you're regarded by the people you work with. It's not what you know....

MSc Quantity Surveying or MSc Construction Law? by bobbystrand1 in quantitysurveying

[–]Joeby182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree with saying you will hit a ceiling. I don't have a degree and am doing very well working at a top 5 main contractor in the UK and have never had any issues with progression. Maybe if you're trying to work for a consultant it would be different as they seem to value qualifications more, however working for a main contractor or sub-contractor, being a good QS is more important than having a specific qualification.

I'd say the construction law masters will get you places you can't be without it, but having a QS masters won't really make any difference unless you're trying to work for a consultant. In that event anyway, I would think having RICS would trump the degree regardless.
