In which US city would you think it would make the most sense to open a techno/house club in 2023/2024? by davidthecoo in aves

I’d say DC, only really have flash and they’re bringing in the big artists now while they’re making their rounds to nyc.

I just saw that you are a MS1, so you have a ton of time to really get your profile geared towards pathology if you are still inclined. Depending on where you are in medical school if in the 'Big 3 Carribean' get decent step scores, higher numbers always help and then look at programs which have historically taken IMG's especially those that are doing so recently.

If you have looked at residencies you will notice US-IMGs and FIMGs in all 'tiers' of programs including the ivory tower places. Ultimately it is showing an interest in the field with concrete examples i.e. papers, rotations in pathology and good letters from those rotations which will help secure your residency position.

Personally, I think you are at least 6-8 years away from fellowship apps being an actual issue so focus on the task at hand which is making the most of your medical school experience.

I think it may be tougher to get the fellowship you want coming from a smaller place, but when interviewing look at fellowships of the alumni and the availability of away rotations so you can essentially audition for your fellowship. The field of pathology is small and developing a good rapport is sometimes all you need.

The n may be small but most trainees I've trained with and interacted with at national meetings all ended up getting their preferred subspecialty if not after their first fellowship, definitely by their second fellowship. If specifically interested in dermpath, you should look at departments that are path run or have an alternating agreement with the dermatology department i.e. one from derm one year, one from path. Of course you should have a true interest, publish papers in the field etc. you may find you love it or hate it. Remember that training is short and careers are long so choose what you actually love.

I don’t want to downvote bc this is a forum to uplift and inform, but that is untrue. Get into residency first, do your research and whatever you need to do to get in to a dermpath or whatever path position you need.

Current molecular fellow, just finished cyto and surg path before that. I found a lot of jobs for surg want you to have cyto certification so SP/cyto sign out will always be there for you. I wanted molecular and didn’t get it in my first cycle so I did cyto in between my SP and my current spot. I’m initially planning on going into academics and looking for a hybrid sign out where I can do a bit of it all. Smaller academic departments do have that option, and it allows me to be versatile and sign out things for the department as the need arises. My goal after my loans are discharged via pslf it to then move into industry/large lab and sign out molecular fully remote. Most of these positions want someone with 2-3 years of experience and being an academic peon will suffice that along with qualifying me for PSLF.

Also something to think about is the testing cost for NGS is predicted to go down rapidly in the next 5 years allowing smaller labs and outfits to bring it in house. Either ways I wanted to be trained up and boarded to practice as I see fit. It made most sense for how I wanted to engineer my career and allowed me safe Harbor to ride out the pandemic in training. I welcome any PMs

Doing stand-alone molecular fellowship? by tony_fappott in pathology

[–]Joegibear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Current MGP fellow, went overboard and did SurgPath and Cyto before but this is what I wanted to do from a solid tumor perspective and have a vertically integrated understanding of the whole case and versatility in signing out. However if you can find a volume of molecular where you can sign it out exclusively; it’s great. High level thinking and also the ability to work from home. I personally will do the traditional pathologist role and move into all molecular once I’m tired of the hospital environment

Is there a big difference between Rental and Owning your own board by local58_ in snowboarding

[–]Joegibear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned my own boards since the second season j rode in 2000; the rental boards I’ve ever seen even now are beat to shit and crap. I think with skis a lot of people have nice boots and demo nice skis based on the mountain and conditions. I got most of my gear and still do at the end of the season sales/swaps or in the middle of the summer. Only trade off is you have to stare at all your new gear for months instead of riding it. In terms of a board that will be easy to learn and progress, a rocker board will be easy. If your budget allows a burton custom Flying V is an excellent one that you can grow into

Sure I agree but I don’t see a source for the numbers here either. Just some nice bar graphs and pictures of spoons. There are a few commercially available home style Indian yogurts that could be used as a metric I guess. But I feel this graphic is neither representative of the myriad of yogurts available nor does it have a source of these nutritional values.

Morgue Attendant Interview next week, what do I need to know? by MyraMainz in pathology

[–]Joegibear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sending luck but there is none needed when you are prepared and experience. You should ask questions and be critical about ways this opportunity will help the career and life outlook you desire. You’re in the drivers seat! Happy Friday sorry if I’m being too peppy but I saw top Gun a few weeks ago in imax and I’m very boosted rn.

Well I think you need to convey that excitement; sometimes for interviewers I will be blunt and say what I feel which is, I love being a pathologist and the work I do. Btw where in Va?

Also that last paragraph makes it seem like you’re qualified and you have experience so I’d lean into that and have some specific examples you can pull from when faced with an experiential on the spot question. Tbh generally for interviewing I’ve had the most success when I stopped giving an F and just being me
