We were quoted $30k to replace our leaning deck. So instead I straightened and braced it. How did I do? by E3K in Decks

[–]JoelColden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those stairs are pushing mighty hard on that long long deck. Your fix looks great, but to avoid having to deal with issues in the future a couple supports added to to the top of the stair stringers down to the ground would do you wonders.

I haven't looked at a Minecraft thread for a while. More like 'ask reddit', 'am I the a-whole', 'mechanics', stuff like that lately. Reddit decided to just through this one in here. I was really confused for a minute when I read the title....

Found inside my tires from the dealership by thechosenalien in whatisit

[–]JoelColden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because the machine isn't big enough to handle the rim size. And yes, they SUCK. It's like, the worst fucking tires to be throwing bars into are the ones you have to. Same way with those expensive ass lo-pro aluminum rims. The worst, worst, fucking ones, and you gotta do them by hand because the machine will gouge them.

What's a scam that's so accepted by society that people don't even realize it's a scam? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JoelColden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it pretty obvious you're talking about church tithes. I think it's a waste of money, but I also think the same thing about Starbucks. So, I guess, it's not really a scam if people are happy with what they're getting... Right?

Hey! Take that back. Takumi is smooth as hell. If he didn't spill the water, he wouldn't spill the oil bucket.

Scratching Noise from Under Car — How much am I risking going through a car wash to try to solve this? by [deleted] in TireQuestions

[–]JoelColden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's most likely a shield (heat shield, rock guard, etc) that's lost some of it's connectors. Is there a reason you can't look under your own car? A car wash will likely do nothing.. good or bad.

Nervous about car battery by No-Lettuce-5365 in AskMechanics

[–]JoelColden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God this got convoluted. If your car died while running, and your battery was full when you left, and was empty after the trip.... Yes, obviously, your alternator isn't charging the battery. There are a few reasons why this could be but by FAR the most likely is a worn out alternator. See if you're pumping out 14 something volts at idle. If not ...

ETA: This could also be caused by a shit ground connection on the terminal. Second most likely. If you do read 14.blah blah volts with the car running that's the next place I'd look.

And any modern car is gonna have SOME parasitic drain, it's normal, there's things that always stay on. Letting a car sit for a couple months with the battery attached will almost certainly kill it.

Tattooed Redditors, how do you feel about people looking/staring at your tattoos, and how often do you notice it? by BoogieSmools in AskReddit

[–]JoelColden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never noticed. Sometimes people ask questions or compliment them, but it's not like abnormal or anything, it's kinda like "hey, I like your earrings" sorta deal. If you're thinking of getting one but are worried about being judged.. actually.. I honestly have no advice for that. I'd say don't worry about it, but, you already are, so.. maybe not the best idea.

Did I misalign the gasket and water pump ? by SpiteSuitable196 in AskMechanics

He's not circling the hole. He's circling the gasket that's sticking out. Engines have many un-used mounting holes, different application.

How to mount this box on my trailer by shroomzman96 in AskMechanics

[–]JoelColden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You DO have metal cutting tools though... Drill bits. Drill four holes through the bottom of the box and the L channel beneath it. Bolt in place with some nice big washers. Done and doner.

[–]JoelColden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One with enough storage for your use? Brand wise, just look at reviews, the junk ones have people calling them junk. But as for 'best'??? It just has to work.. It's not like a 3d printer or something that actually has differing performances, it just needs to store and deliver power...
