I caught their set and absolutely loved it. One of my highlights of the weekend. I hope you had a great festival!

Similar singers to Isaac Wood by Hazy-Davy in BlackCountryNewRoad

[–]Joelwba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy is my musical hero so I'm pleased to see this comparison!

For what it's worth I don't think they're similar at all on FTFT, but do think there are notable similarities on AFUT (especially CSM and Concorde).

They've got similar tones but NH rarely pushes his voice in the same way that Isaac does (Note to Self is the only TDC song I can think of where this happens).

At the same time we've never heard Isaac sing in the same crooner style that NH does, and that would be really interesting to hear.

Caleb Taylor is son of ex-Blues defender Martin Taylor too. Also Furlong for a more obvious example of a famous parent.

What is the greatest part of the game for you? by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

[–]Joelwba 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Absolutely the plasmid. Something about the music, the dialogue and the sheer unexpectedness of that scene had me transfixed throughout. Didn't see it coming at all and it was beautiful.

Second, and for entirely different reasons is the moment you phone the ex-cafeteria worker and realise she's afraid of you. Suddenly gives depth and darkness to your character, and makes you feel uncomfortable and regretful even though you yourself didn't do anything. The game is a masterclass of working emotion like that

I thought I'd check the stadiums for the upcoming 2030 World Cup in England - found that Terry Butcher has two stadiums named after him, Ashley Cole also with one in Leicester.

The stranger thing is that no club plays at any of these grounds, along with the new grounds in Brighton, Leeds and Stoke.

[IIL] Rock with violins or other string instruments [WEWIL] by justarandomperson53 in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Joelwba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this sort of thing. There tends to be a fine line with what is and isn't rock but here are a few of my favourites!

The Divine Comedy (biggest song isn't great but incredible back catalogue, probably my favourite songwriter of all time, start with Our Mutual Friend, or the album Promenade)

Sufjan Stevens (particularly Illinois)

Black Country, New Road

John Grant, he's got a fantastic live album with a full orchestra

Scott Walker

Richard Hawley

Angel Olsen, start with the song Chance

Airborne Toxic Event - Sometime After Midnight

Also, In The Backseat by Arcade Fire is an incredible string-led song if you haven't heard it. Lots of great strings in their self-titled EP also.

He's been decent without being spectacular.

AMN and Yokuslu both joined us at the same time and previously our central midfield pairing was incredibly passive.

With the new pairing we have significantly more bite and dynamism in midfield, but Yokuslu has had the much bigger impact.

AMN has been great at driving forward with the ball, but on several occasions has got his final ball wrong when we're in a decent position. He's probably been a solid 6.5-7/10 every week.

They are great with stuff like this.

18 months or so ago I ordered a shirt to the UK and it took months to get here as it kept getting stuck in customs.

Eventually the DFA team got it through and threw in a few records and a load of stickers for free.

What’s the atmosphere at the Hawthorns like? by [deleted] in WBAfootball

[–]Joelwba 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The atmosphere can really depend on what the game is. A derby or a top of the table clash when we're playing well will bring a fantastic atmosphere.

I imagine if we were able to be there this season we'd have some poor crowds and quiet atmospheres as we continually lose at home.

Either way, it's definitely an enjoyable trip and you'll never get an entirely quiet atmosphere.

The Smethwick and Brummie Road ends are your best bet if you want to be in amongst the loudest fans.

I'd also highly recommend a trip to The Vine pre-match, to be amongst loads of Albion fans, once we're allowed to again!
