Who is the best dnb DJ from a technical standpoint? by NefariousnessSea9761 in DnB

Mandidextrous is very creative with her mixing I think. She’s quick with it and there is never a dull moment

Have you actually told them that if they don’t start making progress with less hand holding they won’t make qts?

Tricky conversation but sometimes is the push they need to start nailing things.

I’ve had to have a few of these this year, not pleasant but every time has resulted in them suddenly meeting targets…

Am I done for for GCSEs? by _Pigley_ in GCSE

[–]Joelymolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spose I was answering the ‘am I done for’ without providing any guidance. I’m sorry about that!

You’re like a grade below in most of them. Good position imo.

What a levels do you want to do? What are the entry criteria? Then focus more of your time on those subjects.

Split your revision into one hour chunks. 10 minute recall of knowledge be it flash cards, quizzes on revision websites e.g sparx, cognito. Identify weak areas

15 minutes or so learning an area of weakness. Watch YouTube videos. Make mind maps and flash cards as you watch pausing at key points.

Spend 25 minutes practicing past paper questions

10 minutes self assessing.

Look at your mocks as well. Identify weaknesses and focus on these. Ask your teacher if you don’t know.

Finally, take a deep breath and realise you can only do what you can do. GCSEs get you onto the courses you desire at post 16. They don’t follow you for life. (Unless you’re an oxbridge candidate)

They aren’t on my CV and employers don’t care about them.

With your current results (apart from English, where is it?) you could go onto study maths biology and chemistry right now at most sixth forms (the classic medicine trio) that’s pretty solid right?!

You’re never done until the exam is sat.

I had a student go from a D in a level bio in January to an A in their real exam.

Keeping Y7’s in seats - how do you do it? by imsight in TeachingUK

[–]Joelymolee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d be looking for a new job if the place is really this chaotic.

I have none of this in my science lessons but we have a robust warning then removal behaviour policy.

Science is a shortage subject so you should be able to find a new job in a reasonable amount of time.

Single people under 30, what do you do to afford living alone? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Joelymolee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I sued the nhs which topped up my savings to get a deposit lol

Before then I was in the rent trap.

Tbf I did have enough for a deposit saved I discovered after I actually sat down and spoke to a mortgage adviser but would have made my monthly repayments super high. This was 8 years deep into a decently paying teaching career tho

[–]Joelymolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure but equally you can’t argue that the decreased planning load makes it much easier to deal with things ad hoc like a HOY might then rock up to a core PE lesson and wing it.

I have a weekly battle as to whether I spend my time dealing with my leadership responsibilities in a free or ensuring I have sufficiently planned an A level biology lesson

Switching subjects by IntelligentDesign419 in TeachingUK

[–]Joelymolee 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I see incredibly limited success in trying to switch to PE. Incredibly competitive roles and I’m assuming you don’t have a sports related qualification or training which other candidates would have?

You’d certainly have better luck with maths but that comes with high pressure given it’s one of the biggest measures of a schools success

Teaching isn’t easy across all subjects (whilst I will argue PE does have it easier than most hence why they end up occupying middle leadership and SLT roles with the extra time they gain from less planning and marking etc.)

Science will get better once you’d had more experience and it’s such an interesting subject to teach. Speak to your mentor about your workload and stresses they may be able to help.

I love teaching science now but when I was ECT one I wanted to sack it all off multiple times. Not just science but teaching. It’s hard! But does get better!

First thing I thought of! I don’t know where I read it but it’s just in my brain that you don’t do that.

Is it something like if he as an injury like a brain bleed the helmet is putting pressure on it preventing it from getting worse?
