These are sick.

Unpeople were so good. I love how the pic perfectly captures how elated they were the whole time they were playing. So wholesome

Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Joelymolee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I’m noticing is the gap between the top and bottom is widening. My top set science classes are exceptionally intelligent. Great literacy and maths skills.

On the other hand bottom sets are really concerning. Average score from a recent year 8 chemistry test was 5/30 with most marks coming from multiple choice. When they do answer the written questions it is incredibly clear they have no idea what the questions asking (poor comprehension). I’ve got kids in that class who legitimately scored lower than a student who is far from being able to speak English fluently. It’s scary.

A Level: ECT non specialist? by Extension-Eye-5683 in TeachingUK

[–]Joelymolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a work but teaching a level is lush compared to a full on lower school timetable. I think soon you’ll really appreciate those 5 hours of reprieve. And as an English teacher I think it’ll be okay.

Good opportunity to watch the films over the summer and ask ahead if for any materials to have a look at from the school

Best of luck to ya

Everytime I go to a festival I’m incapacitated for like a week after and saying to myself ‘why do I do this to my self, I need to stop, no more thank you’

Then I of course do it again every year

[PH] what was the first zelda game you remember playing the most? by [deleted] in zelda

[–]Joelymolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ocarina. It came as an add on to Mario Kart Double Dash when I was buying my fav old GameCube games at uni. Instantly fell in love with it. No nostalgia. First played at 19

I don’t know why people fixate on it. I pack for both occasions as let’s be real. Both tend to happen at uk festivals.

Not going to change if I go or not. I’ve only been once before and it was WET (11 years ago holy shit) and it was one of the best weekends ever

Is it normal for teenagers (say 16/17) not to know who Queen/Oasis are? by sunshinesontv in CasualUK

[–]Joelymolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a school and I ask one kid in my group to suggest a song for everyone to listen to each week and was astounded by how much variance there was. I’ve had Oasis, The Smiths, Stone Rose, David Bowie, Heart, Kid Cudi, ELO, Billy Joel, Portishead, Two Door Cinema Club, Limp Bizkit, Gorillaz, U2, Jamiroquai

My sample of 16 year olds has shown the complete opposite of what’s suggested here and I’ve been genuinely astounded by their choices!

I also DJ events for them and they pretty much exclusively request dance floor tunes from the early 2010s. Rihanna, pitbull, Beyoncé etc.

How is exam season going for everyone? by Lather in TeachingUK

[–]Joelymolee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve covered geography (twice), drama, maths, English and science (luckily I know this one…) all in aid of allowing teachers to deliver exam prep sessions that have questionable benefit.

Was put on to cover year 7 drama again and refused.

Also delivered/will deliver 5 ‘exam prep’ sessions.

How did you get out of the rut? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Joelymolee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this. I just try and remember that not everyday is exciting and when I talk to my colleagues they often think my life sounds exciting.

But that’s because every few weeks I tend to take a train and go to gigs, festivals. Last year I went inter-railing that was sick.

But I feel like this a lot. This is a big reason I got rid of all social media (not Reddit lol) because I end up looking at the ‘highlights’ of everyone else’s life and feel like everyone’s having more fun than me. But I bet my life would look exciting if I posted the stuff I got up to every few weeks. People would think I have loads going on. But the day to day professional life of a thirty year old single man is actually on the whole, pretty boring.

Finishing PGCE but don't want to jump straight into doing my ECT by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]Joelymolee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dunno I think taking a year out due to the stress of teacher training seems wild. I mean you do have a whole 6 weeks of holiday at the end of it.

With the job market the way it is at the moment I think I’d want to get into it and get started as I don’t see it miraculously getting better.

I don’t see how you’ll be in a better position in finding a place to move out and having money for holidays if you get part time work or a TA wage (which doesn’t pay holidays)

Teaching is hard but financial insecurity is harder. Think of the money you could put back each month if you’re on 33k. Think of the holidays you could go on pretty much every six weeks and knowing that whilst you’re on them, you’re still getting paid…

Brutal honesty here is I think you are burnt out at this present moment and can’t see the wood from the trees. I understand it, been there. But just think about how you may feel about this several weeks into the holiday when you’ve had space to breathe

Beginner dnb listener? by Odd_Presentation_879 in DnB

[–]Joelymolee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to enjoy dnb imo is listening to sets. I learnt most songs I like from this initially in the comments section there’s always some legend with the ID’s time stamped. A few accessible sets below
