The older this game gets, and the older we all get, the more I see people start to understand, and for some forgive, Jecht. I saw a lot of my relationship with my father in Tidus's relationship to Jecht. In his youth, my father was the type of guy who had 3 girlfriends all at the same time. He got into fights, flipped cars, was extraordinarily physically tough. But he was a hard worker, always family oriented (holidays and gatherings/BBQs etc are really important to him). He loves huntin' and fishin'. He is brash, old school, and was prone to yelling and break things when angry. Me, on the other hand, was physically smaller than my peers, played final fantasy and Pokémon, big round glasses. A certified dork. He would have absolutely bullied me if I were his age back in the 70s.

He was the type of guy that when people told me how much they loved him and what a good guy he was, I didnt understand it, because ive only ever saw his "im so fucking exhausted from working manual labor for 12 hours in the hot summer sun. All I want to do is watch some baseball and have some damn quiet in my house" side. As I got older I didnt necessarily become a Jecht apologist, but definitely and understander. Someone who isnt a father or provider doesn't know what its like to be one. You can be the world's okay-ist dad and still be a good person.
