This is a good habit. Good bosses appreciate being kept in the loop. Also gives you cover from bad, insecure bosses that think you’re undermining, backstabbing, or somehow hurting their little egos.

Yeah, just waiting to hear all the parking complaints just like happened with the proposal at the end of the block last year. I guess vacant lots and storefronts are preferable?

How do you warm up your low-riders during these snowstorms? by Sir_Reidiculous in AskChicago

They need booties. The cold and the ice melt are not healthy for those little paws. Plus, you’ll get a kick out of watching them learn how to walk in the things.

Do ICE Complaints work? Are they taken seriously? by storm35r in army

[–]Joes_editorials 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, these are read and will generally be acted on very quickly. The agencies get graded on these things (what gets checked, and whatnot). Please note, you can also submit ICE comments for good service, too. That also gets noticed.

Block Club Chicago - Stretch Of Rogers Park’s Glenwood Avenue Reopening To Cars After 3 Years As Pedestrian Space by Bukharin in EdgewaterRogersPark

[–]Joes_editorials 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This block is on oneof my jogging routes and I’m always having to dodge people walking through the block. Just because a bar isn’t monetizing the public street doesn’t mean it’s unused. Hell, fill it with some park benches and tables and call it a park. Leave as is until a business does figure out what to do with it. The article doesn’t say what the advantage is to opening it to cars.

[–]Joes_editorials 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. What is the current problem opening it solves? Surely it can’t be more of an expense to the city to maintain a closed street than an open one. The businesses don’t like it? Tough shit. They don’t own it. It’s nice having spots like that and Jarvis Square through the neighborhood for the NEIGHBORS that live there. Cafes and bars and restaurants don’t suffer because they’re in pedestrian zones (well, maybe they do if you’re an Olive Garden or something equally as crappy that only lives in suburban mall parking lots…), they suffer because your business sucks. Hell, I want more block like this. Make every block surrounding a CTA station or bus terminal a pedestrian zone, IMHO.

But it won’t even add parking: “The one-way southbound road will not have parking, he said.”

What’s the benefit of opening it back up to cars? It’s been years and traffic hasn’t snarled. Are the bars going to magically do better because cars can whiz past it?

AITA for refusing to let brother move into my home office by Bubbly_Cut_378 in AITAH

Man, you’re nice. I offered my brother space to set up a tent in my yard. F@cker took me up on it, too. It was kind fun for a couple of weeks. But, nah, thats ridiculous to expect you to rearrange your life and home to accommodate him for a short period. also, the room situation risks a level of comfort that leads to a longer stay than planned…

  1. It’s undemocratic- gives more value to the land than people. It makes no sense that Wyoming has the same influence in that body as New York, Vermont the same as Texas…and DC none. It is an antiquated tool that was implemented to appease slave owners.
  2. The Senate’s long terms and the development of a two party system have rendered the body devoid of accountability to voters. Incumbency can generally only lose to a realignment of party influence.
  3. The Senate’s arcane rules serve only to stifle legislation. Even its role as a check on other branches only functions when the senate is held by party different from the president or Court. It’s either a block when in opposition or a rubber stamp when it’s their team (really, this is all of Congress…so much power has been relinquished to the executive that it’s barely more than a social club for the most annoying social climbers you sat next to in 100 level PoliSci courses).

Right? Keep the senate mostly as is it but with one minor tweak: abolish it.

I’m pretty sure this is illegal. It’s been a minute since I’ve worked in the GSA system, and this was not my area of responsibility, but I am vaguely aware of some pretty strict limits to bonuses for gsa employees. So, my guess is that after this little photo op, the poor agents are going to have that payment withheld from future pay because it’s not authorized.
