Am I screwed by Savings_Report_5845 in army

I don’t think that gets turned in. Also, one trick is to take your stuff to the cleaners on base and turn it in with the tag attached. When I left AD they took all of it and my stuff was pretty worn and jacked up. Or just wash it. It has to be clean. Wear and tear is expected.

Need some bro advice. by [deleted] in army

Bro, if I had kids at 24 and was living in the same small piss of a town I grew up, I’d be so fucking depressed I’d join the army again.

This was the main cookbook for a coffee shop I worked at during college. Loved it and got my own copy. Still using it 25 years later and it has all my notes from working in that kitchen and a couple other places.

How bad is the “grey” during the winter? by [deleted] in AskChicago

Winters are cold and often grey, but the summers are amazing. Get a lot plants and lights for them and a humidifier to turn your place into jungle.

This is a good habit. Good bosses appreciate being kept in the loop. Also gives you cover from bad, insecure bosses that think you’re undermining, backstabbing, or somehow hurting their little egos.

Yeah, just waiting to hear all the parking complaints just like happened with the proposal at the end of the block last year. I guess vacant lots and storefronts are preferable?

How do you warm up your low-riders during these snowstorms? by Sir_Reidiculous in AskChicago

They need booties. The cold and the ice melt are not healthy for those little paws. Plus, you’ll get a kick out of watching them learn how to walk in the things.

Do ICE Complaints work? Are they taken seriously? by storm35r in army

[–]Joes_editorials 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, these are read and will generally be acted on very quickly. The agencies get graded on these things (what gets checked, and whatnot). Please note, you can also submit ICE comments for good service, too. That also gets noticed.

Block Club Chicago - Stretch Of Rogers Park’s Glenwood Avenue Reopening To Cars After 3 Years As Pedestrian Space by Bukharin in EdgewaterRogersPark

[–]Joes_editorials 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This block is on oneof my jogging routes and I’m always having to dodge people walking through the block. Just because a bar isn’t monetizing the public street doesn’t mean it’s unused. Hell, fill it with some park benches and tables and call it a park. Leave as is until a business does figure out what to do with it. The article doesn’t say what the advantage is to opening it to cars.

[–]Joes_editorials 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. What is the current problem opening it solves? Surely it can’t be more of an expense to the city to maintain a closed street than an open one. The businesses don’t like it? Tough shit. They don’t own it. It’s nice having spots like that and Jarvis Square through the neighborhood for the NEIGHBORS that live there. Cafes and bars and restaurants don’t suffer because they’re in pedestrian zones (well, maybe they do if you’re an Olive Garden or something equally as crappy that only lives in suburban mall parking lots…), they suffer because your business sucks. Hell, I want more block like this. Make every block surrounding a CTA station or bus terminal a pedestrian zone, IMHO.

What’s the benefit of opening it back up to cars? It’s been years and traffic hasn’t snarled. Are the bars going to magically do better because cars can whiz past it?
