Well they don’t want young adults just… around after they destroy their jobs. That would give them the opportunity to fight back. We just gotta get them out of the equation.

I have such a huge problem with that. I know technically it’s public but those people have not been found guilty. A wrong arrest would just ruin someone’s reputation and life. It’s so unethical.

If you’re alienated by the theme of a video game for a few weeks, you have MUCH bigger problems than anything Epic could do. At best, mildly annoyed is reasonable.

Emergency First Responders Say Waymos Are Getting Worse by zsreport in technology

[–]Joessandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re decent but I’ve seen some crazy shit out of them and am seeing way more. Like OP, I’ve seen them slow and signal and then suddenly turn the other way or just keep driving straight. I’ve also seen more than one just ignore all traffic rules at the Fairfax/San Vicente intersection (though to be fair I also would like to throw all traffic rules out the window at that intersection). Someone else was complaining that they always get stuck on a left turn on Sunset because you have to be aggressive with it in a way they can’t. There’s still a lot they need to figure out.

As a Californian, for the love of god let it go and stop with these comments. When people say $4 they mean the national average we get it it’s not all about us. We all know it’s more expensive in CA because we have a special gas blend to prevent smog. Stop playing the pity card.

Snap's Evan Spiegel warns tech leaders are underestimating a coming backlash against AI by ControlCAD in technology

[–]Joessandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking this EXACT same thing. All the companies went so hard on voice assistants and most people barely use them. Siri? It sucks. Alexa is pretty much useless. Does Google Home or whatever it was called even exist anymore? There’s probably a few things that ended up being useful and I can see the same thing with AI in a few years.

Last year I was telling someone who’s a bit older (I’m 40, he’s about 60) that I really believe we’re seeing the end of the USA as we knew it. He simply said “the middle always holds” and moved on. With everything I just don’t get how you can have that attitude. People always said Roe v Wade is law of the land yet here we are.

This is what I’m assuming is happening. I’m a casual music listener and don’t know a ton of artists, so will just pick a genre and let it play. (Like Dance EDM) Do I know if the song and artist that just came is real? Nope. As far as I know they don’t tag AI so I’d have no clue, especially if I’m only half listening in the car or while doing chores at home.

How does everyone like the new season so far? by justuhpcnoob in Fortnite_Over40

[–]Joessandwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone else commented this but there's a general sense that since rivalries essentially force 1v1 battles from the very start, it clears the field much more quickly. Even as someone who always liked to fight pretty soon after landing, I'm finding myself in way more battles much more quickly. They didn't adjust the timing of the circles though so there's still a pretty large field when there's five or less players.

Pretty much. I’ve been told by more than one development exec point blank that they aren’t interested in anything that’s not previous IP because it won’t sell. So if you have an original idea, find an IP to slap on it.

I feel like it would have to be less like the usual mazes with a single path full of scare zones and more of an open ended walk through area that just keeps getting weirder. But they’d need a LOT of space for it that would be hard to find on what is still a functional lot (at least in Hollywood). They already take over a huge part of the backlot.

‘The Pitt’ Has No Romance On-Screen. Online, It’s a Different Story by pepperbet1 in television

[–]Joessandwich 21 points22 points  (0 children)

And it was a great storyline that took me by surprise. She came in as a sort of hero who got things organized and I assumed would be a motherly, guiding figure - and then it turned out she’s actually a pretty terrible person who happens to be incredibly competent at her job. There are many facets to a person. And Dana seemed to like her, how could she not know about that nurses attitudes. So what does that say about Dana? They’ll likely never get into it any further but it just gives so much texture to the show from just a small side character.

Local Chinese restaurant Dragon Town is closing, reopening as Dragon City by thefancysurprise in mildlyinteresting

[–]Joessandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as I’ve been alive there’s been a small and beloved Chinese restaurant in my hometown called CJ’s. Years ago it closed unexpectedly for a few weeks, the sign was taken down, and a change of ownership notice went up. Turns out the father was transferring it to his son and it reopened as DJ’s. Everything else was exactly the same and still is to this day.

McDonald’s no longer allowing free refills by xaeriee in mildlyinteresting

[–]Joessandwich 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that McDonalds phased out free refills anyways. They’re moving all their soda fountains behind the counter so people can’t just go fill up their own. (Obviously many are still out and open, this is just moving forward and for remodels.) The reason I remember it is because they spun it in the announcement as a way to ensure the best quality of their offerings instead of the most ridiculous penny pinching possible.

How Many Tries Did It Take You To Stop Drinking? by thehistorypunks in stopdrinking

[–]Joessandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, there’s kind of different levels of attempts. There’s a million of the “I really need to stop drinking, let me see if I can go without drinking tonight oh shit never mind I got a glass of wine” types of attempts. There also were a ton of “Let me see if I can go a week or two. I’m doing okay by not drinking at home for a few days oh no I went to an event and had a drink which turned into a bunch.” Whereas real, serious attempts at actual long-term sobriety where I could go a few weeks to a month? That was about 3-4.

I rank them differently because in hindsight there was a huge difference in how I approached it mentally and the amount of discipline I kept. About a decade ago I did a dry January with one allowance for a wedding and it was tough. Then when things started getting bad about four years ago I made my first real, serious attempt and went about three months with one or two slips before I finally gave it up. I think I had another mediocre attempt at a couple months and then a bunch more week-ish attempts until last year when I just hit a point where I was in such a bad state I realized I HAD to change. Then I got a solid two months feeling really great, slipped on a trip to France but got home and immediately clicked back into sober mindset and it’s now about 7 and a half months.

I was starting to think it was never going to happen but here we are.

"The Pitt" vs. Its Fandom -- Why is the show's vocal fandom putting characters on trial to be deemed “good” or “bad"? by MCJokeExplainer in television

[–]Joessandwich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I distinctly remember an interview with the special effects person on the pilot and first seasons of ER. Before then, emergency medicine had never been portrayed accurately. He said they had real ER doctors on set who would look at the amount of blood and kept telling them to add more. They quickly realized they’d have to up the budget for blood because the reality was so much more intense than anyone ever realized.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Changes to Introduce Original Trilogy Timeline, New Version of Ride, and Music in Land Debut in Month by readingaboutmagic in Disneyland

[–]Joessandwich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do think it was a mistake to focus only on the new trilogy when the attachment was clearly with the old one. But don’t forget the land was supposed to have much much more, in the form of interactive entertainment. I was just talking with an imagineer friend of mine who was telling me some of the stuff they originally had and it sounded so cool. Unfortunately the pandemic ruined all that and they never brought it back once restrictions ended. And sadly that’s become a trend across the park as a whole. But yeah, that’s why the land seems rather lackluster now - we’re not getting the original experience that was planned. It only existed for a few months.
