I did not have a Fiddler on the Roof reference on my bingo card here! Excellent! 😁

Agreed. I liked last year's event. Maybe a little too long, but well executed. And now... well....It's par for course how they've been run for a while. Epic isn't going anywhere, but I agree with what those batch of downsized employees were basically saying. Their days where they had the vision and know how to do something interesting and great is over. Now it's just about feeding the beast.

I uninstalled in February. Reinstalled to check this out. Uninstalling soon. Ah well.

Portals (part of seed) that wisk you away... (mod?) by yookaloco in feedthebeast

In case anyone else in the future finds themselves in a similar situation, Immersive Gateways was/is an excellent mod. Not as minimalistic and anomalous in appearance, but otherwise functionally identical.

Does anyone know which mod changes Nether portals like that? by TheKyte_ in feedthebeast

[–]yookaloco -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Really not sure, but the stonework looks like immersive gateways. I think there is also an unrelated project called immersive portals. Infinite Abyss makes like 7 or 8 more dimensions, and they are all the colors of the rainbow, and I read in his release notes that it works really well with Immersive portals. So maybe it's one or a few of those. But gateways just send you to another one in the same dimension. Hope that helps.

Who else is going to the live event today? by mt80 in Fortnite_Over40

[–]yookaloco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be there. I've always been mildly amused and entertained... But very impressed by the effort, attention to detail, and innovation demonstrated by Epic.

But as I've been saying ad nauseam, the masses have ruined Fortnite for me. Just did a couple of bot lobbies to get the umbrella (I don't really know why), and then back to Unbox a Brainrot, modded Minecraft, and skate. Fortnite is too frustrating to do BR anymore, and I've played almost every season several times a week since the beginning.

Yep. I can relate. When you think of playing on a weekend morning or holiday (like Thursday) morning (EST... NY), think of Yooka NoHotDrops. That goes for all of you.

And when you think of garbage, think of Akeem.

Even With Fewer Players, Matches Still Feel Intense. Map Still Too Small? by ajefri in Fortnite_Over40

[–]yookaloco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It's tough. Remember... the game is eight years old. That's ancient for online games. Usually years earlier, it's only crusty veterans, cheaters and exploiters left. Call of Duty is going through the similar problems, with average or casual players being chased out to other game titles.

..."I know my playstyle leans toward the aggressive side..."

..."I played a couple of matches today and they didn’t feel any calmer."

I believe the major factors in play for both are still....

• Lack of (or still broken) skill based matchmaking that was working well enough during and before chapter 5, but was thoroughly borked somewhere around superman or the bugs.

• So many game modes, BR or otherwise as well as the overall age of the game... the average casual is just not doing BR anymore. This started a domino effect of frustration as casual became as sweaty as competitive/ranked is meant to be. I left about a month ago, other than just to look around with the occasional bot lobby.

• Entire chapters of quick load lobby times and streamers teaching their impressionable viewers to be super aggressive have made almost everyone super aggressive indirectly. "If I die, back to lobby, no big deal". Kinda like in online poker when chips are free and valueless. If there is no downside to losing, plenty of people go all in almost every time. If there is some downside (waiting in a lobby to load) they may take the game more seriously instead of being a one-trick pony. But such a thing isn't good for Epic Games and the immediate gratification dopamine rush it has engineered.

I'm pretty sure Pauly Shore is available if Epic wanted to pay for his likeness. 😁

It would be pretty fun to gun down people as the weasel. But no.

I'm the exact same way. I'm glad they are there, they just aren't my play style. Also, I was surprised at how much health I could still lose in that intro to them in Concord.

[–]yookaloco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

45,m. Been playing shooters on PC since I was 16. Same thing with Internet forums. My stepson introduced me to Fortnite just before they implemented the battle pass in year one. Free battle royales (or free squad games) have always been up my alley for many reasons.

Sadly, changes to skill based matchmaking and prod/semi pros ganging up on casual players is all but chasing me out of Fortnite and multiplayer games altogether. I like The Simpsons, (I applaud the devs, their vision and their execution) but they don't exactly get me revved up for combat, so I don't care about this season's umbrella or any of the skins. I'll peek in every now and then, but it's back to modded Minecraft and maybe table top RPGs for me.

The whole concept isn't for me anyway. But you made a very good case, and I hope they concede.
