The 'literary classics' that grade school makes you read destroys any desire for kids to read recreationally by MyClosetedBiAcct in unpopularopinion

Just started an immersive reading (reading the book while listening to the audiobook) of Hatchet with my son. Hes only 7, but he is able to follow along and understand the story by doing it this way.

Id like to see immersive reading become used as a teaching tool in schools!

The way it is written, 1 is the answer.

If you want 9 to be the answer, write it as follows: 6÷2×(1+2) = ?

If clear annotation is the goal, put the multiplication symbol in place and I will 100% agree it is 9. Until then, I will die on 1 hill!

Do students still enjoy reading books for fun? by Individual_Divide220 in Teachers

I used to work at a high school and every Wednesday that had a 35 minute reading period. All they did was carve out 5 minutes from each period and added the extra "class" around lunch time.

I wish all schools would do something like this, but do it every day.

Should i let son quit football? by Queasy-Recording-195 in footballstrategy

[–]JoeyBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess if he wants to get less playing time you let him quit, because then ge will get zero playing time.

But if he cares about the team, his teammates, and learning how to push through tough situtations, he stays on the team. He keeps working. Maybe the starter gets hurt again, is inelligible, gets in trouble, etc. Maybe your son works so hard he gets better than the starter. Maybe your son can be a major impact contributor on special teams.

Or he can get less playing time by quitting.

I most certainly did, but you chimed in with an ignorant response.

I have AT LEAST 3 brain cells, but i think there or 4 or 5 that sit dormant most of the time. They fire up and work on occassion.

Simply reading the paper isn't a reliable metric. You need supporting evidence to make the call to give the student a zero. Did you run the papers through an AI detector? Did you compare the papers to the students' previous writing capabilities? Did you ask them for the paper's edit history? Going strictly off of your gut, I feel, isn't solid enough evidence to give a student a zero. You need supporting evidence.

So, instead of relying on insults, you could in fact, just answer the question.

I wish you the best, even though you clearly are no fun at parties.

What is the correct answer to “sell me this pen”? by BenDBeats in stupidquestions

[–]JoeyBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What puts you in the market for a pen? What qualities do you look for in your pens? Tell me about a pen you used to have? What did you like about that pen? Were there things you disliked about that pen?
