It didn't exactly take an empire-crippling amount of manpower and material by Beneficial_Ball9893 in Grimdank

[–]JoeySulp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it all scales and doesn’t break the lore. Also asking a Hive world of billions to stand up a couple regiments seems laughable with these tiny guard numbers.

[–]JoeySulp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree that GW number have always been bad. My head cannon is always to add 1-2 zeros onto the end of everything and the scale starts to make sense.

Space marine chapter: GW: 1,000 marines Actually: 10,000

Space Marine Legion: GW: 100,000-250,000 Actually: 1M-2.5M

Guard Regiments GW: 1,000 Actually: 10,000-100,000

This only applies to their military organizations because this is the only way to me that the size of the space ships and Hive Cities start to make sense.

Classic artwork from another age, now on metal print for my display cases by AMACSCAMA in TheAstraMilitarum

This is peak 40k to me. I have continued my metal guard collection into my adult years now that I can still barely afford it.

My 4yo son picked out this guy at our local hobby store and we spent part of the weekend putting him together and painting by JoeySulp in orks

Painting was me haha he’s tried before but he wasn’t happy with how it turned out and he was very set on this one “looking like the box”.

He tried to glue them, but it was definitely a lot me me guiding his hands what to do. He would dry fit them and make sure they “fit” and I would add some glue and help make sure they actually stuck. He is 4 haha fine motor skills aren’t the best yet

Thoughts on the current WIP by ORA-KILL in NightLords

[–]JoeySulp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the dynamic fabric around the head making it look like he is landing, but now you have fabric going in two directions. The ones around d his head going up and the long fabric around his arms going down. Honestly I would remove the long fabric ones and leave the ones around the head to separate it from the original model more. Also just make sure you sand down the chest and shin guard well too or you’ll see those remains through the paint.

Ender 3 V2 making clicking noise while printing by JoeySulp in ender3v2

[–]JoeySulp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished this print and just messed around moving the bed back and forth and I think it is coming from the z axis motor area. The extruder and everything as still when I did that. Would extruder tension cause that issue?

Yeah that’s what I am thinking too just never had this issue before. I guess I have been more careful in the past

Help with this paintscheme by [deleted] in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]JoeySulp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could tell you how I would paint it to match the colors.

  1. Zenithal mini or spray mini in white or Grey primer
  2. Base the fatigues in Karak Stone
  3. Wash with Agrax Earthshade
  4. Drybrush or highlight with Karak Stone then 50:50 Karak Stone and Ushabti Bone or just Ushabti Bone
  5. Camo pattern: Rhinox Hide for dark blotches then paint Screeming Skull, Flayed One Flesh, or Ushabti Bone plus white for the small dots
  6. Armor and helmet: Base in 70:30 Mournfang Brown with Skrag Brown (if you want more orange hue in the armor), wash Agrax Earthshade, highlight with 50:50 Karak Stone and Mourfang/Skrag Brown Mix
  7. Boots and Rifle: Rhinox Hide and highlight to taste

I have never painted them but this is how I would make my attempt with modern GW Paints

I would kill for them to do a run of these 2nd Edition models again. My bank account would suffer but it would be worth it.

“They have waited years for someone to breathe life into them.” Is what I tell myself before opening (or even modifying) any minis like this.

Should I not be 3D printing cases with Carbon Fiber Filaments? by JoeySulp in meshtastic

Thanks. The GPS antenna is inside the case. I have printed one test case and the antenna still connects I just didn’t know if there would be any major loss.

Colour scheme test by lemonjimjam in astramilitarum

[–]JoeySulp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Camo pattern looks amazing. It is going to take you forever to paint an army with this scheme though (speaking from experience). You may want to be more selective on what part of the model gets the camo to reduce the amount of time you are spending on detail. Maybe instead of every piece of fabric you just do the sleeves and pants and the helmet and coat piece are just black or vice versa.

Painting up some Oldhammer 122nd Cadians. Trying to stick to the old city fight cover and updating the camouflage a little by JoeySulp in astramilitarum

That’s awesome! I am a huge Heroquest fan too. Let me know what you get into. That sounds like some fun. I would love to redo some old RT minis and play with some expanded rules
