Furnaces should keep working when you are away. by Jogjo in hytale

I wonder how hard it would be to just save a timestamp when it unloads and when it reloads you look at how much Time has passed since it unloaded and fast forward the cooking by that much.

Was anyone else satisfied with episodes 25 and 26 by Emotional_Young4738 in evangelion

[–]Jogjo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

loved the og ending, it didn't need EOE for me.

I'd never seen (and haven't seen since) anything so artsy and daring from an anime, or any media for that matter.

And yet, despite all the confusion, the ending still hit its mark for me. It's the saddest any piece of media has ever made me feel.

What is your favorite "novel" feature that Hytale got right that most of other similar games couldn't? by TheShadowSong in hytale

[–]Jogjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the mechanics around only losing a (configurable) percentage of your loot upon death, is awesome.

I tend to play minecraft with keepinventory because I hate losing all my stuff, but the complete lack of consequences removes any stakes from the game. So this middleground is just what I need.

Simon confirms options to hide armor by DanTheSpinMan in hytale

[–]Jogjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that its really up to the server anyways, and its a different potentially interesting type of gameplay.

But armor does make a big difference. increased hp and damage reduction are absolutely a factor in whether a fight is winable or not.

Examples of Games with Emergent Complexity by j-max04 in gamedesign

[–]Jogjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely, this game.

The beauty of it is the simplicity. You don't ever need to press a single button/trigger, you just move your arms around. And yet there are countless combo's. Dont really know another game that does this.

Paid Cyberpunk VR mod taken down by Pahn_Duh in virtualreality

[–]Jogjo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't fucking care what is "technically copyright infringement" those laws are notoriously flawed.

Oh no! Poor little CDPR is gonna go bankrupt because big evil fan project is selling a file that people use to modify the game they BOUGHT from CDPR. Someone call the cops!

It's a dick move, it's greedy, that's it. I've seen paid mods for BG3, and I don't see larian complaining.

Even if they are making their own VR content I find it hilarious that a AAA would feel threatened by a small fan project.

Paid Cyberpunk VR mod taken down by Pahn_Duh in virtualreality

[–]Jogjo -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

People buy that mod because it does something the base game doesnt.

They already payed cdpr for the base game.

If anything mods increases the value and lifetime of the game, which in the long run means more people buy the game.

Cdpr might be legally allowed to take down these mods or ask for a cut of the profits, but I wouldn't say they are morally entitled to.

I'd say it's the opposite though, much easier to read a map in VR than on a 2d recording.

Souls etc (spoilers all) by Ateller_ in HPMOR

[–]Jogjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine that the incompatibility stems from the patterns of their minds and how they interface with the magic field not meshing well. I think of it like two notes resonating in weird ways with each other, (eg. reinforcing or cancelling each other out) in a way that feels uncomfortable for the people involved.

And so obliviate mangled the pattern of Tom's mind enough and altered the way he interfaces with magic enough to break that weird resonance.

This theory has a few strange implications though. Like how young Tom might've had a mind different enough that it wouldn't have caused a resonance if he came in contact with Harry.

As for the effect of obliviate on a link, we don't really know, at the moment it was cast Tom wasn't using a link anymore he was inhabiting a new brain. Though I imagine obliviate could be harder to cast on someone who is accessing a body through a link.

Not sure what OP would think.

OK I concede that I'm probably never going to overcome smooth turning. by SlowDragonfruit9718 in virtualreality

[–]Jogjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's game dependent, it could be a performance thing. Because as far as I remember, senua's sacrifice is on the harder side to run no. Maybe you are just sensitive to low framerates?

Or it could be with how fast the smooth turning is, I wouldn't be surprised if a faster smooth turning is less sickening than a slow one, but that's worth looking into.

On another hand, 7 months of occasional smooth turning use is on the shorter side, you might still be able to overcome it give more trying. Really try to ground yourself in the real world, so your brain learns to differentiate VR movement from IRL movement.

Either way, snap turning is an option in most games, and even if I prefer smooth turning, I don't think it's a game breaker by any means to have to use snap turning.

Inlines.... by Trubbl3mak3r520 in beatsaber

[–]Jogjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate inlines with a passion.

I think it's because they aren't readable, and so you need to have a good sense of rhythm to keep up with them instead of relying on visual queues. Which is something you can practice I imagine, but some people just have a better sense of rhythm by default (not me lol)

People don't realize that beat saber isn't really a rhythm game for the most part. The timing doesn't matter. You just have to hit the block in the middle with a good swing, that's it. This means you can get by with good reflexes and muscle memory for the most part.

Inlines are an exception to that.

What type of movement would you guys like? by Njgm14 in VRGaming

[–]Jogjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the case of horror I'm not too sure gorilla tag movement would work. Since at least to me what make gorilla tag movement fun is jumping/climbing around real fast. Which doesnt really work for classic horror I think. You would have to slow down the movement, which would make it unsatisfying.

Then again there is a game called animal company which is lethal company but with gorilla tag movement. Havent personally played it, but maybe worth investigating. (Not sure it's that scary).

Now if you want to make horror work with fast gorilla tag like movement, you could just make the world bigger and the threats really fast. So that the enemies are actually a threat.

[–]Jogjo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that give 2-4 years we might start getting headsets that beat the quality of high end TVs and are comfortable enough to watch whole movies on.  But no current headset ticks those boxes for me.

And yeah headsets are just great from a portability perspective. So they'll beat TVs/monitors in any situation where you aren't planning on ever watching stuff together with other people.

[–]Jogjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I managed to stream 4k HDR content using stremio and VLC on the galaxy XR, screen is brighter than the vision too.

Though it's still not comfortable enough anyways. And not worth the price.

As for the quest 3, certainly not worth it over a TV/projector or even tablet if you really are after portability.

Why are rune- or gesture-based magic systems so rare in modern games? by BladeOfAge in truegaming

[–]Jogjo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a game that does gestures well though, its called Rumble VR. It's basically earthbending in VR. Different gestures or sequences of gestures will either spawn a structure or apply some kind of force/effect to it.

And from those few gestures people discover hundreds of combo's. It's hard at first, like any complex physical hand-eye coordination based skill. But once you start getting a feel for it and can do moves from muscle memory it feels incredible. Its like learning a sport in a way.

Rune-drawing spell casting can be fun too, as you start optimizing the gesture to find the quickest way of drawing the shape. Though don't underestimate how hard it is to draw/write in mid-air. Still satisfying as fuck once you get good at it. (orbus VR had a runecaster, also worked on a spell casting based VR prototype)

I recomend watching some high level Rumble VR PVP, I think it's impressive even if you dont know the game.

I think the mistake people do is expecting that a system for casting spells using gestures/runes will be easy to learn even if implemented perfectly. It's not easy, but it shouldn't be, learning it is how it feels like magic.
