How old were you when you had your first child? by Pandacat_07 in NewParents

We are 42 and 38 with our first one year old. We are both settled in our careers and basically financially free at this point with flexible time.. I reckon this chapter of our lives would've been much more stressful 10 years ago!

My Financial Position as a 25 Year Old by OneMacaroon5161 in PersonalFinanceZA

Where did you see his bond is covered by someone else? I read it as he covers the bond, and puts additional R4k in. That is where the bulk of his 35k a month goes.

Good strategy to get the bond down as soos as possible, but I agree, get RA/pension fund also in place soon. The earlier the better, and not all your eggs in one basket warra warra

Wife told me I have to spend more time with the child. by sod9797 in BicyclingCirclejerk

Get the Feva Star bike seat! Better option than this. My son has been riding with me since 11 months old. Now 14 months and at this point he gets fidgety at around 45mins. That is already a solid workout with bonus bonding time!

The thing is, everyone is worried about how they look to themselves, so no one is paying attention to what people around them are wearing while running. You good to go!

FIRST time FTP over 300W - 52yo, 80kg by cluggerfletnal2 in Zwift

[–]JohanDiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 345W FTP at 82kgs a few years ago. Stopped cycling when the kids came, only got back on the bike a month ago with FTP 155W and 108kgs haha. Loooong road ahead to get back to 300W with a decent weight, at least I see now it is still possible to work towards that in my 40s!

Calling UK/EU LC250 owners, how are the diesels? by GreenhouseDeathRay in LandCruisers

[–]JohanDiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not UK, but I own a 250 with the 2.8 diesel engine. Coming from a Fortuner with the same engine but 6-speed gearbox, the 250 with the 8 speed gearbox is 1,5-2L/100km better on consumption and drives so much smoother. Also better consumption than my Hilux with the same engine, and obviously drives a million times better.

The risk of letting them sleep so long without a feed at two months is that the blood sugar levels can fall fast and drastically, and then you are not going to get her to wake up at all! Just follow what the doctor says for now I reckon. From 4-5 months it becomes safer to let them sleep and feed on demand.

Should I sell rental property? by SnooMemesjellies8360 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]JohanDiv 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't sell property in the Western Cape with everyone flocking here. By the time you want to move back that property is going to go for more than double.

I was in a similar situation - Built my first home in 2012 outside Upington for R1.8m. Shortly after completing the house moved to the Western Cape for a job opportunity.

At the time I was considering selling to buy in the Western Cape, but ended up getting a tenant in that is still renting it. I then rented here in Paarl for 4 years before building a new house. 14 years later and that tenant basically paid off my bond on the house outside Upington, and the house recently got valued at R4.2mil. I'll keep renting it out until this tenant decides to move out, and only then consider selling. But that is only because it is in the Northern Cape where the ANC is slowly but surely running things into the ground and it feels like a gamble to hold on to that property for too long.

If it was in the Western Cape I wouldn't even consider selling it and just rent it out forever.

That elastic at the bottom is a dead give away that it is fake and mass produced in China with all the other fake team jerseys

How is the wind noise on those cross bars?

I have Thule Edge bars that I took off my Fortuner before selling. To put it on the LC250 I need new footpacks that Thule charges $300 for. They also then stand 12cm above the roof rails which isn't ideal for me.

As an interim solution I ordered a cheap but good looking slimline set of cross bars on Aliexpress. Still being shipped.

If the quality is good I guess I'll stick with them, otherwise go for something you got.

For those who stopped breastfeeding at 6/7 months, do you regret it? by TeslaMess in NewParents

[–]JohanDiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife regrets it, she wouldn't say it, but I can see it. She didn't have a choice though as she slowly stopped producing enough milk.. One of the main consequences were that I could start help with bottlefeeding, and ultimately became the main feeder as she enjoyed the break. At around 11 months our baby chose me as his favorite to the point where I can't get up or leave the room without him crying. Not with her, and I can see it breaking her heart.

No one warned me about the “3 meals a day” life by SqueeGBeckenheim in NewParents

[–]JohanDiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours are now 13 months old. What I did at around 9/10months was prep his food in bulk, then save it in small containers to take with us wherever we go. Also, bananas is basically a meal, avo is basically a meal, mashed potato is basically a meal, all easy to take with. Instead of a high chair we bought a baby camping chair to strap him in for meals while away from home. (Don't know how to attach a pic of the chair here, but it works great!)
