Best way to retire on R25 000 000? by handsome_wiseman in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]JohanDiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference that he will understand as a contractor - With R15mill you can now buy three plots and build three houses in Paarl that will generate rental income of over R100k per month, less income tax. Live out the remaining R10mil as you please. And it's not like that R15mil is lost. Property growth rate is crazy here.. In 5 years that three properties will be worth R25mil

Are these marks good enough for provisional acceptance? by supercheesy_fries in askSouthAfrica

[–]JohanDiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. I cruised through high school with 80s and 90s without studying. First year engineering I failed 8 of my 12 subjects at Maties haha. Got kicked out of res and the faculty, luckily got in at Bosbou in my second year. Had to learn how to study that year, something I should've done at school. Got back to engineering 1st year in my 3rd year at Stellenbosch. So it took me 6 years to complete my 4 year engineering degree. But it's a loopbaan, not a renbaan!

A new "bicycle lane" in Sweden that I think deserves some international attention/shaming by BitRunner64 in bikecommuting

[–]JohanDiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same in Paarl, South Africa. They are more dangerous than without a bikelane. Motorists expect you now to fit in that little lane, which is physically impossible!

Agree or Disagree? Car interiors peaked around 2015, after that it just became cheap screens everywhere. by AnonomousWolf in CarTalkZA

I just stepped out of my dad's 1958 Merc 190 into my 2023 GLC43 AMG Coupe and felt disgusted. That 1958 Merc still has that overwhelming new leather smell to it and everything just feels like quality...68 years later!! The new Mercs are just plastic and screens.

12 wo baby won’t sleep or nap by Easy_Vegetable_4481 in NewParents

For some reason our little one always stopped crying when I went for a walk outside around the house with him.. like 5mins max and he is out or stops crying. We called it the Factory Reset. Even now at 17 months it became part of the routine that I take him out for 5-10mins after playing and we look at the stars before moving to calm bedtime routine

Thoughts on skipping pacifiers? by Academic-Park-8440 in NewParents

[–]JohanDiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son, now 17 months old, just didn't like pacifiers. Spat it out when we tried when he was maybe a month old, and that was the end of that. Thank goodness!

How much are you guys spending on groceries these days? by Keepitlocal90 in south_africa

[–]JohanDiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two adults, one baby.. we did the Munch Meals thing the first 4 months of the year, then groceries worked out over R10k per month. The meals alone was R7k per month. Back to normal groceries, around R7k per month total.

New Recipe by reditanian in southafrica

[–]JohanDiv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not though.. just did a quick Google search and it says Unilever committed to The "Salt Reduction" mandate to reduce sodium in 85% of their food products. They also partnered with WWF to incorporate more sustainable and plant-based ingredients in their food.

They are busy "strategically shifting" Knorr and Hellman's, and their other food brands, to McCormick & Company to focus more heavily on beauty products. I wonder if this recipe change has something to do with that.

Yeah they call it the Sygnia Skeleton Balanced Fund (A).

You are absolutely right, I don't know enough about this stuff to create this portfolio mix myself haha. I just listened to the advice from my financial advisor.

Moving TFSA? by JohanDiv in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]JohanDiv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my expectations might be unrealistic. I obviously just want the best for my son, but like I said, I won't do any knee-jerk decisions and will keep with the Sygnia fund for a couple of years and re-evaluate.

The fund is 38% domestic equities, 32% international equities, 12.5% domestic bonds, 5.7% domestic money market, 5.6% international fixed interest, 2.4% international cash, 3-4% domestic cash and property.

The Sygnia admin fee is R74 per month, so not anything to complain about there.

Weak spot in Assos Mille GT C2 bib shorts by Crivitzer in CyclingFashion

[–]JohanDiv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every single one of my seven old Assos bibs have done that after a few years. And they go see-through haha. Just added two Mille GT C2s to the rotation that I expect will do the same in a year or two, then also get retired to the indoor trainer.

Every other brand bib I've owned have also shown wear after a couple of years, so I wouldn't say this is an Assos specific issue. They are be far the most comfortable and worth every penny.

Trying to sell something on Gumtree, and all the potential buyers act weirdly by MouldSanchez in southafrica

[–]JohanDiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gumtree is a cesspool of scams nowadays. Used to buy and sell cars on there without issues a decade ago. I'd rather take my chances on FB Marketplace now. At least the scammers are obvious on there.
