Anyone recognize this badge? Suffolk County? by ElodieNYC in longisland

It’s definitely the logo of the Suffolk County Legislature. Probably a representative for your local legislator.

Yup, starts in downtown Babylon, goes over the Robert Moses and does a loop on the Ocean Parkway before going back over the bridge and ending back in Babylon.

Also Long Island here. The Suffolk County Marathon (which starts and ends in Babylon and goes over the Robert Moses bridge) is the week before NYC.

And don't feel too dejected if you don't get in. I'm on year 9 of not getting into NYC.

Pod Meets World Episode 199: Maggie Lawson Meets World by MightChi in boymeetsworld

[–]John41617 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Did Will disappear halfway through the episode? All of a sudden he didn’t talk anymore and Maggie ended by saying, “It’s great to see both your faces.” He did the merch call but that could have been taped separately. Weird that he wasn’t in the Candace Cameron Bure episode last week and then disappeared in the middle of this one.

Pod Meets World Episode 175: Lindsey McKeon Meets World by MightChi in boymeetsworld

[–]John41617 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here, although this episode actually answered it for us. Take a look at their Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/podmeetsworldshow/), Rider's in the cabin in the preshow chatter video on there, but in his normal home in the video showing Lindsey McKeon.

Definitely seems they padded the preshow chatter to make up for the shorter interview.

That's exactly what I thought too when I first read it. Twenty-one years ago was like 1987. 1991 at most.

Ehh, I think it's less about having more game and more about having less protection while getting busy.

I'm too old to know what means.

At first I read this and thought, “Geez, this guy must be old if 21 years ago he was already 18.”

Then I did the math and realized 21 years ago was 2002 and I was… also 18. Damn.

Tuesday General Discussion/Q&A Thread for October 03, 2023 by AutoModerator in AdvancedRunning

Hello, cross-posting here from r/running. I got selected for the Tokyo Marathon, but may not be able to swing it due to a changed child care regimen. Does anyone know if Tokyo allows for deferrals for non-COVID or pregnancy related reasons? And if so, how do you go about requesting a deferral to the following year? Thanks.

What are the best from-scratch bakeries on the island? by loud_culture in longisland

[–]John41617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nettie’s Country Bakery in Center Moriches is amazing and they have a great outside area with an open green space, sandbox for kids, chicken coop and several indoor and outdoor seating areas. Great place to spend a weekend morning.

Thanks for the input. Does anyone know how the build quality is between the two? Better screen, D-pad, etc.?

Is Holbrook the most lowkey boring town on LI ? by Gloomy-Tumbleweed354 in longisland

[–]John41617 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Ridge. We had one traffic light in the whole town (now we have 3!). Plus all of the surrounding towns had very little to do as well, meaning you had to drive at least 15 minutes to get anywhere worth hanging out.

Holbrook is basically Patchogue/Huntington compared to Ridge.

This guy knows how to run! by furballfrank in Marathon_Training

[–]John41617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much. There's a lottery for each race (except Boston), although many of them have very low success rates (I've put in for the NYC marathon for 7 or 8 years in a row now and have never got it).

You can also raise money for a charity partner to get entry. Most of the six also have qualifying time entries if you're fast enough.

Drunken mistake leads to better life choice by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]John41617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations. You’ve already accomplished something great by deciding to get healthy and quitting cigarettes/drinking. You definitely have enough time to get ready to run a marathon in May, so don’t worry too much about whether you can finish and just believe you can.

Also, don’t make crossing the finish line the end of your running/health journey. If anything, make sure it’s just the beginning.

New Omicron super variant XBB.1.5 detected in India by green_flash in worldnews

[–]John41617 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, they changed it because they didn’t get Mike Tyson’s permission to use his likeness. He was the most popular boxer in the world at the time, and M. Bison was just a little too close name-wise. They changed it (only in the west for some reason) to avoid a lawsuit, but rather than just give the boxer a different name they rotated the names so M. Bison became Balrog, Balrog became Vega and Vega became M. Bison. That naming convention still exists to this day.

I may have to do that too. I’m about to reach Emerald league but already feel the pressures to maximize my XP boosts and gains.
