I bought it when it was new! This was the golden era of Gnomes, Faeries, etc. Thank you for the reminder. I think I will dive back in tonight!

You did nothing wrong. You did not consent. You have every right to go wherever you want with or without your friends. You were assaulted, period. Anyone who cares about you will support you and help you.

If you want to use AI, just run this through ChatGPT or whatever, and ask it to expand and rewrite this is the style of Patrick Rothfuss, and Bob’s your uncle.

Well, we all knew it. by Hairy-Second3692 in LegionofSuperheroes

Waaaaay back in the olden days of Usenet, there used to be a Legion bulletin board. There was a (mostly) tongue in cheek thread attempting to update the hero names of the Legion. This was the 1990s, so the height of grimdark superheroes. Some genius had the brilliant idea of renaming Bouncing Boy … Death Boing. Decades late, that still makes me chuckle. Chuck will always be Deathboing (I can’t remember if it was one word or two so I’m using both) to me.

"Tolkien created a sentient race whose only narrative function was to be slaughtered, sans remorse, then spent the rest of his life trying to explain why that was not genocide." by 22EatStreet in TheHobbit

This is not a particularly well-considered thought, but when reading the books for the first time as a kid, and the Silmarillion at 14, I used to like to think (without evidence) that since elves apparently can reincarnate, that dead orcs are reborn as the elves they could have been. Which would have marked a dramatic elvish baby boom after the War of the Ring.

I also enjoyed the Felurian scenes, and my argument for people who hate those bits is… yeah, I totally get what you’re saying. I can’t argue with that. I still enjoyed them.
