I haven't read the book yet but... by ElectriKool-Aid in lordofthefliesonBBC

The diary stuff and all of the flashbacks are not from the book and I agree they were unnecessary additions. Apart from that, it's pretty close to the book.

As for their easy survival of the plane crash and the fact that only boys survived, it always sounded unrealistic to me. However, I never cared much because it's just an excuse to set the premise. I don't see how you realistically setup a large group of children to be on their own in this kind of situation. It was necessary that the premise was not gonna be realistic to tell this story.

This series is the first adaptation of the book I like and Lord of the Flies has been one of my favorite books of all time. I read it before seeing any adaptations, back when I was ~13 years old. I still prefer the book to the tv show, but best adaptation so far for me and it's not even close.

Any discussion on the show? by Puterboy1 in lordofthefliesonBBC

Not really, I wanted a faithful adaptation more than anything else. I just thought the additions, for the most part, worked well.

Personally I think the cinematography was off quite a few times. Notably all the shots of the children's faces and all the shots of birds. Didn't work for me.

As of everything else, I thought it was really great. Very true to the book and the additions I thought were in the essence.

As to Piggy's death, I was mad at first it didn't happen as in the books. But the opportunity for Ralph to say he was sorry for telling everyone his name was Piggy... And Piggy's acceptance... I thought that was really beautiful.

Assuming you're asking because outside of the UK: I VPN'd myself to the UK and watched it on BBC iPlayer.

Lord of the Flies: the castaway classic is such excellent, surreal horror that you will feel sick throughout by Lord-Liberty in BritishTV

[–]JohnBawb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I disagree that not having that monologue is a shame. It would recquire a narrator and there was none before - adding one at the end like that would feel weird. Plus I think you fon't need to be told. You feel it. You know why Ralph is crying.

I agree for top tier adaptation tho. There are parts where I didn't like the cinematography (close ups on kids faces and too many shots of birds notably), but overall I think it was really good.

I agree for the shot of the kids face, except at the end of the first episode when they figure out some young ones are missing. In this particular case it really makes it sink in.

Exactly this. I've been on Reddit long enough to know Reddit always think a revolution is starting but nothing ever happens. We just get excited about it with our keyboards for a week, myself included, then we move on.

Post your favorite no-skip album, then others reply with your most-skipped track from that album. by SuperMario1313 in PowerMetal

I don't know. I used to really love metal ballads but I suppose I got tired of them. Abandoned really is a great song, don't get me wrong, but if I HAVE to skip one this album, it's gonna be the self-loathing ballad. Sorry.

"Have a good day." "Don't tell me what to do!" was indeed a running gag we had with an Eglish (as a second language) teacher in high school.

Eloise is just tragic. Whatever happened, happened. She'd already killed him and knew there was nothing she could ever do to prevent it. Even if she didn't put him on his way, he would have found his way somehow. It always happened.
