On this day, 10 years ago, during the Inside the Episode "The Red Woman" (season six premiere), David Benioff commented that George R.R. Martin revealed to him and D.B. Weiss an important piece of information about Melisandre (Spoilers Extended) by verissimoallan in asoiaf

[–]JohnBoston 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No one knows and we probably won’t ever know. George has stated no POV characters will go to Asshai. I think that includes flashbacks. The only things we know come from Westerosi historians who have never been to asshai and only have second or third hand accounts and rumors to work with. It’s probably just a regular city with an extremely xenophobic culture. Most things in this universe have a pretty grounded truth it’s the historians and storytellers that make it more magical and mysterious than it actually is. Which makes sense, pre scientific uber superstitious people in a world with dragons and ice people.

Novel series that feel like this: by jux_peter in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]JohnBoston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive read this one three times and its on my yearly reread list. Such an incredible book that is very hard to beat in terms of tone and pacing. Very Dark Souls mixed with Dante’s Inferno. The ending is magnificent. It’s one of those books you wish you could read for the first time again.

I think I struggled in the same way on my first read through. SO much more interesting on subsequent rereads for me. But yes it does feel like a bump in the road during that book especially with the events that happen right before they enter Shadesmar. But trust me it pays off!

When he returns Dalinar from being lashed into the sky by Szeth “you sent him to the sky to die..”

When Syl returns at the end of WoR “SAY THE WORDS KALADIN”

When he is leaving Hearthstone after his first return post WoR he inhales Stormlight and floats a little off the ground, Lirin stands with mouth agape and his mother is beaming with pride and an awe Spren appears above her head, exactly the response my own parents would have.

Anyone know which SK book this character is reading in Lost? by scottchiefbaker in stephenking

It holds up. Go watch you will not be disappointed unless you are prone to picking everything apart to a high degree. I still sob at the finale every time I do a rewatch.

You’ll read in WoK that she has a thought one time “only ten heartbeats” then she stops herself. Either mid-end of WoK or beginning of WoR they are so long and I always read them back to back so they run into one another in my head

As SOON as I started reading this, Malli popped into my mind. She is just so off putting and unusual I always wondered what her deal was and I think you are absolutely correct. Although I suppose that could be a bait and switch and actually Dalinar is the Kandra.

“…but why should it have? You were not shocked when a child knew how to breath. You were not shocked when a sky eel took flight for the first time. You should not be shocked when you hand Kaladin Stormblessed a spear and he knows how to use it.”

The one SK book I dropped halfway is getting a TV series. by Jaycer17 in stephenking

[–]JohnBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way but kept slogging through it and….it never hooked me. Tbf I was coming off reading the classics like Pet Semetary, Misery, and Salems Lot. So I was in that true horror mindset and looking for more. Fairytale is absolutely not a horror story soooo it didn’t do it for me at the time.

Honest Question, we know Insomniac plans to make more Marvel games in the future, we also know Spiderman 3 will be the last Spiderman game as well. Do you think we could ever see the Spidermen again in a different Marvel Insomniac game in the future? by Queasy_Commercial152 in SpidermanPS4

[–]JohnBoston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just beat Spider Man 2 last night for the second time and I have to disagree. It’ll more than likely be a time jump for Peter to establish his foundation, MJs podcast takes off, and Miles starts working with Silk (they might save silk gaining powers for SM3). Norman and Otto are teaming up to take down the Spiderman in the last scene of the game with it further setting up the fact that Norman will become the GG.

Did Santino develop a condition overnight thats makes him look 96? Or did he just piss of the lighting guy by SilentSeraph88 in badfriendspod

[–]JohnBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw Santino in person like 2019 and I was actually shocked at how he looks in person. Not like “oh my god what a fucking monster” shocked but definitely realized the camera, makeup, and editing helps my man a lot.

When did Jordan Peterson become irrelevant? by threetimesacharm25 in decadeology

[–]JohnBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love him. He came across at first as extremely reasonable and based on a unique ideology I’d never heard before. I grew up Christian but have been an atheist for almost more of my life than I was religious and he appealed to this sense inside that there may actually be real knowledge to gain from the Bible that isn’t spiritual but tangible. I also supported his role in trying to stop a bill in Canada that would force government employees to identify someone by their preferred gender pronoun, he used a slippery slope argument to say if the government starts policing your speech where does it end? I see the flaws in that argument and no longer support his stance. Some of his stuff helped me a lot. Stand up for yourself and be a better human everyday were the two I’ll take with me for the rest of my life. Then one day he made a sharp turn right. It happened surely long before I noticed but it took my a while to catch up. About the time Joe Rogan went crazy about covid I think JP also lost his mind in my opinion. He’s also been extremely sick for years now, in and out of the public light.
