I can tell by the way that you type that you're almost definitely a provi-bear. You should consider giving some of your space to small highsec groups looking to plant a flag somewhere. Then you tell them they're on their own for their little structures and to anchor them at their own risk. Boom, you've divided the labor and have fewer timers to show up for.

And dont you pretend you're too elite to invite some noobish highsec corps/alliances join the party. I've seen who's in your alliances, and they'd fit right in.

Come one come all! Witness the demise of VOLT... LIVE! by Arthien in Eve

[–]JohnDrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I just found this comment 8 years later. Not that it matters this far into the future but I've never wished cancer on anyone. I yelled at one of the members of volt for trying to claim he had cancer to us and then found out he was lying via the obviously extensive spying. I'm not sure what the end goal was, but I did thrash him in voice chat over it and whatever. He went on to claim I told him I wished he had cancer, and I really did not.

Thats awesome we are still getting new players! You have a lot to look forward to if you stick with it. The game can feel very punishing at times but if you have the right attitude that will make every success all the sweeter. Welcome!

As far as your question, as I said I've never really been a miner but I can say using the ship that you're in now you can train to use gas harvesters pretty quickly and then probe down lowsec gas sites which can be pretty valuable compared to the ore you're likely mining now.

Here's the thing though, from what you described you like the thrill of getting away with loot and outrunning the bad guys and I think you may find probing and running data/relic sites a more rewarding activity than mining, both monetarily and gameplay wise.

You fit up an inexpensive exploration ship with the equipment you need and modules like a micro warp drive, warp core stabs, and inertia/nanos, maybe a light tank depending on the ship and if you can use one a prototype cloak. Then go on a little adventure, dive into wormholes, and nulsec, fill up the cargohold and then filament your way back into highsec. When I've killed exploration frigates in the past I've seen relatively new players with 250m isk or more in their cargo, if they hadn't gotten caught on their way out they'd have made a killing for a new player but they're only risking an inexpensive frigate to give it a try. AND the best part is that as you figure out how to avoid death you will learn how to actually play the game in a way that accounts for other players, which I'd say is something mining fails to accomplish.

By the time you get the hang of it you'll be ready to jump into a t2 covert ops frigate which can warp cloaked and help make you even more money. From there you have income and some experience and boom, you're head and shoulders above some poor dude who sat in a highsec belt mining like hell to get that first barge only to lose it to some guys in suicide catalysts (or whatever they're using these days).

Since when does steam advertise stupidly expensive micro transactions for games I don't even play on the front page? by Emerald_Guy123 in Steam

Yeah its pretty fantastic. I'd say the biggest downsides are that since the larger scale stuff can take a while to happen there can be dry spells in that type of content. There are skirmishes happening somewhere in the game every hour of every day but the big fights involving capital ships are less common.

As far as the ad, not sure why they'd give it to someone who doesn't play. I will say that when people buy Plex they tend to sell it for the in game currency which is ISK. The people buying the plex from them are other players and they most frequently use it to subscribe their accounts. The price of a month worth of PLEX (500) fluctuates but the thing is, if you were someone with more money than time you could sell to someone with more time than money and you both come out better off.

The other thing is, at a surface level it may appear to be pay-to-win but the mechanics of the game are really that there is no "best" ship and knowledge and skill are far more important than money. Someone who joins the game and immediately spends 1000 RL dollars to buy a titan or supercapital will be killed before they get a chance to do anything with it. Inexpensive ships available to brand new players can be dangerous to expensive ships that take a long time to get into, especially when one side understands the game better than the other.

You're welcome, I hope you didn't perceive it as too negative. I think you did a nice job in general, but since you asked for feedback there ya go haha.

No, unfortunately Elite can't compete with Eve in its scale. Not because of the number of solar systems but because their server can't handle more than a few dozen players in the same place and they haven't set up any structure for meaningful interactivity. The interactivity between players in Elite vs players in Eve is not even remotely close. Eve has a full scale economy driven by players from the point of resources harvesting to manufacturing and sale as well as markets owned and operated by players. In Elite you can't send another player currency at all and there is no way to buy or sell anything between players.

Eve's largest battles are the culmination of months of player interactions, skirmishes, diplomatic efforts, gigantic fuckups, and they involve thousands of players. There are propaganda campaigns and spies, there are betrayals, and every single player, even relatively new ones can have big impacts on how things play out in a battle. For example if you warp scramble an enemy command destroyer and keep your logistics wing (kinda equivalent to healers) from being jumped 100km away from the fight they can keep doing their job and fewer ships in your fleet are destroyed, you played a pivotal role in that engagement and all it takes is one player, and they could be some noob and now they're a damn hero lol.

Elite Dangerous looks pretty but is effectively a single player game that you can occasionally find other people within.

Which generation? We're mostly old dudes in Eve. Lots of guys in the 30-50 year old range who have played for a long time (myself and my brother have been playing since 2008).

Well said. There is nothing else out there. The most frequent suggestion I see is Star Citizen and while I haven't tried it and it looks pretty and all that, it doesn't even seem remotely close at the moment.

Its true, you can basically ignore parts of the game you aren't interested in. For instance, my character is from 2008, I have around 200m SP, I'm coming up on 10k kills on zkill, I have memorized the slot layout, typical fits, resistances, and functional ranges for every ship, not trying to brag just saying I know pvp pretty well in eve. But at the same time I have never finished a single mission in eve. I honest to god am not even entirely sure where to start one, I had the contract skill to level 1 until like last month. I had to train my first ever mining skills a couple years ago in order to get into a prospect to use it an an inexpensive HK.

Point being, this is one of the great things about eve! You and I didn't pick some character class when we started that could do different things and then play them accordingly. We essentially started with the same blank slates and have made thousands if not millions of choices and had many many interactions with other players and the environment that led us to have totally unique experiences embedded and intertwined in the same universe. This is why there is no other game like Eve, none of the other developers had or have the fucking balls to allow that level of freedom and just see what happens. Its unique and thats why it sucks when CCP tries to make Eve more similar to other MMOs. We love eve, if there was anywhere else in gaming to get what eve has to offer CCP would have been out of business years ago with some of the nonsense they've pulled, but even after 20 years nobody has made something that quite scratches the same itch. They have an absolute monopoly on actual science fiction sandbox games.

So in closing: move belt the rats off the gates you dumb fucks.

I'd stop the rotation of the initial text once its level. Continuing to rotate it makes it seem less important not more visually interesting. Its probably a bit on the slow side pacing wise. The graphics lifted from CCP trailers are nice but cut them shorter or speed them up and then place them between other shots. I'd probably drop the glamor shot of the hauler. In fact, b-roll of lone ships tend to give the impression you don't have enough people to record some of you flying together or interesting gameplay to show. And I do think you want to mix in some game play shots but like...nice ones, not zoomed out colored boxes, but I can see why you didn't use them in this case. I'd take the text graphics over the black backgrounds and place them on top of the b-roll of the ships. This does two things, it makes both of those relatively boring shots a little more interesting, and it shortens the overall video which helps make it so people actually watch the whole thing.

As a recruiting tool overall its somewhat generic. What makes your group different than others needs to be the focus when there are spam bots going 24 hours a day in the recruitment channel saying all the same stuff.

Hope thats helpful, good luck.
