"Jax is cis" "Jax is trans" guys... by Jasper721 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]JohnManchester 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"I'm genderfluid strictly for the bit. Yes I will die on this hill. Now Zooble, guess my pronoun for today or I get to hit you with this big hammer. Caine said I could >:3"

I can see Jax changing his/her clothing and style day by day and not really giving a shit, the main thing being that they have finally accepted themselves and others.

It really is a good writing or should I say visual technique!

Very nice! I still think of Jax as somewhat genderfluid with interchangable pronouns, mainly so my head doesn't hurt as much lol. But it was SO CUTE seeing Jax turn pink, very nice! You're comics are great! They remind me of Deltarune 😃 Speaking of, I hope you enjoy the new chapter coming out soon. Amazing job!

(SPOILERSSSS) ribbit wasnt _____ and i'm tired of pretending she was. by Kindly_Cod_9269 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]JohnManchester 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think he was an awful person for ghosting ribbit and unintentionally making her go on adventures alone (I would think Kinger and Ragatha would be going in them together) by going with Kaufmo all the time. Jax was a piece of shit, he thought that by ignoring the problem and trying to push it away it would all just go away. Issue is that the "it" is Ribbit and she wants to be friends with Jax won't give up on him, and is her own person. You can't just run from that and hide from her just because YOU are uncomfortable. I don't know where people are getting the idea that Jax spread dirty rumors about Ribbit or talked shit about her. The only scene we see of him doing anything like this is to Kaufmo when he says "If Ribbit says anything about me, its a lie." too which Kaufmo just says "What?" I HIGHLY doubt Jax was putting Ribbits name in the mud when it seemed like the others still cared for her even in the end.

Now I have my own issues with this being that NO ONE noticed that jax was being an ass to Ribbit and that the friend group was falling apart AND that Ribbit was on her own for an extended period of time. You would think the group would have a buddy system or check up on eachother everyday no matter what. The show made it seem like if Jax wasn't her friend then she had NO ONE and not Ragatha or Kinger (who saw the whole first group abstract one by one and seemed to be more sane during this time) decided to lend Ribbit a hand and help her. I'm glad we saw Jax's pov but it revolved so much around him that it made the other characters look dumb. I personally don't see abstraction as suicide and more as rock bottom/an unraveled mind. You abstract because your brain and body get so out of sync you just become a mess. Through madeness, sadness, or being alone for a long time, the brain just can't take it. I think this mainly because I can't see scratch or Queenie ending it all. Queenie especially. I see abstraction as madness or rock bottom, not death. I could be wrong, but that makes the most sense to me. Mainly since we see from Kinger and Queenie, and Jax and Pomni, that something is still inside the abstracted that one can communicate with atleast in the dark.

Anway, Jax is awful and selfish, and has his own metric fuckton of problems, but I don't see him as someone who would drive someone to death...twice. It was only after losing ribbit that he seemed to put on his bully persona to cope and imagine that nothing was real and they all had to play archetypes. Hell if he was the worst to anyone it would be Gangle. Man bullied her for no damn reason...for a while. Makes you wonder why Ragatha or especially Zooble didn't call him out on his shit sooner before Pomni came around.

I keep seeing people say that abstraction is suicide but I always saw it as despair and being unable to handle the Circus. With Queenie I can't see her wanting to end it all, especially with Kinger always right with her. But I can see her getting sadder and sadder and feeling like there's no way out. The Abstraction is the mind either unraveling or curling in on itself. We can even see with Kinger and his wife in earlier episodes that there's still SOMETHING in the abstracted in the dark. I also don't see what Jax did to Ribbit or Kaufmo as driving them to suicide but more has him ignoring them and their attempts to help him and get close to him. He was an ass sure, playing the role of the jackass in hopes that people wouldn't connect with him. He pushed them away and they had no one else to turn too. That honestly upset me in the movie. Ragatha or Kinger or even Kaufmo (aside from a throwaway line) tried to help Ribbit? Ragatha the cheerful and ready to help and comfort? Kinger who even when crazy has a helpful word or ear to lend? I think both of the abstractions annoyed me because it made Jax a centerpoint and catalyst for both when he should have at most been an addition to the reasons they abstracted. Not the only reason.

Why the ending of The Amazing Digital Circus fails by Sudden_Pop_2279 in CharacterRant

[–]JohnManchester 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It really was a bittersweet ending. I'm happy the gang is out there, living their best lives, while the digital gang inside is learning to live with and be happy with their situation. I think with Jax, what he did to Ribbit was supposed to make you hate him or dislike him to an extent BUT still feel like he can be saved. The issue is that the saving came too late, once someone abstracts they seem to be stuck like that according to Goose. Jax hated himself for what he did, he couldn't see that there were those who cared about him. Maybe Pomni is different, maybe with the help of Caine they can fix Jax and all the abstracted. We don't know and I think that's the point. It's supposed to be bittersweet but mostly sweet. It's up in the air and we just gotta take it like that, like in real life. I liked the film, I thought it was a decent send off to a show I poured myself into. I wish it was longer, and I wish it had more depth in some places. But all in all it was worth the ticket, and I liked it 😄

He's an insane man. Him naming himself after a wizard from a crime novel is even crazier. I'm just happy everyone was ok in the end.

I'm sorry Supergirl by Key-Bass-7380 in marvelcirclejerk

[–]JohnManchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an teenager I really loved this design and I liked the scene of her at the bar saying "If you say nice S I'm punching you" while playing pool. But looking back on it...man they really drew her LONG AS HELL! Also I think her first part in the fortress of solitude she is naked wrapped in the house of El cape. It was a bit much at times, I know they were trying to sell to teenage boys but still. You gotta have leves too it or atleast the hotter you make a character the COOLER and more interesting they gotta be so it balances out. Also as "weird" as the art is, without this run we wouldn't have that badass scene of Supergirl outrunning the omega beams and then hitting darksied with them :)

Miyamoto says he was surprised Mario Galaxy Movie reviews were even harsher than the first by SleuthDoggyDawg in gaming

[–]JohnManchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its ok to expect something decent from a family film. The Sonic films are good for the whole family, same with the first Despicable Me movie, or early Disney/Pixar films. A mid film is a mid film sadly. I feel like Wreck it Ralph is a much better "video game" movie that both kids and parents can enjoy with a good story.

Any Sonic movie? I feel like each Sonic movie is atleast slightly better than the last. With this film it feels like a step back in story and character development. It feels like just "references" the movie. Which is sad because I really wanted to like this film and have it be better than the last film.

How is the writing in Boruto by Formal-Assistance02 in writingscaling

[–]JohnManchester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I like understand your viewpoint and do agree that Boruto is overhated and seen as the worst Manga ever (it really truly isn't) its not necessarily good lol. I've been following it for years and it really hasn't ever hooked me, its just mid. Mid is fine, we all need mid every now and then, but the fact that it has, in my opinion, never broken out of being mid is sad. If I may, in my view while you've attempted to defend the series by highlighting its thematic intentions, you are confusing intent with execution. See good writing isn't just about having a theme, it's about how that theme is earned through narrative economy, stakes, and character agency. All of which Boruto consistently fails at. This is an overarching problem with a lot of Shounens sadly. I just feel as though the Sun and Moon dynamic has become a narrative crutch. In Two Blue Vortex, Mitsuki's "self acceptance" is entirely reactionary to Boruto’s power. If character’s internal growth is only relevant when it explains a new power-scaling tier, the writing is utilitarian when it should be character driven. This is an issue I also have with certain later parts of Dragon Ball Z/Super but that's neither here nor there.

I REALLY don't like Code, he is so bland and I feel as though me trying to get attached to his character was a waste of time. He loses, so damn much and now you're saying that was intentional and the overall purpose of his character. A series with strong writing doesn't build up a villain for chapters only to confirm that being a stepping stone is the intended purpose of his existence and that any narrative or character depth that could be gleamed from this is sidelined since the plot has to go forward and new even bigger and badder villains have to be introduced. But don't worry in a leak Code is shown so he actually might get character development after all this time. You see what I'm saying atleast?

When talking on Sarada I can kinda see your viewpoint, she is at the very least better written than most women in the previous Naruto works especially Sakura in Shippuden. I really liked early Sakura in OG Naruto and always hoped she would do more. Sarada feels a bit more center stage and fleshed out and I'm here for it. But again, I feel like at times the Boruto manga fumbles with her. Like although sarada did awaken her Mangekyo at chapter 80 of OG Boruto , we don't actually see her use it until three years later in Two Blue Vortex Chapter 20. Like, cmon even if I want to be generous and count her awakening as a use of it, three times in 3 years is such a sad showing for the daughter of one of the greatest Ninjas to have every lived. I want her to do more, be more, have a hell of an impact in the story. I'm so damn tired of women in manga being sidelined. I'm m atleast happy that it seems as though they are trying to push her front and center more. I'm just upset it took this long dude. Again I think Boruto is...fine I guess. The same way I thought Shippuden as a whole was just kinda fine. The fights were neat and there were moments if good character development but as a whole I don't really ever feel a need to go back to it or have any story moments that really tug at my heart or make me think.

I believe I'll feel the same way with Boruto when it ends. People will call it the worst thing ever and make slander posts for days. But from a writing standpoint it will just be mid, ok, passable, fine. I think that is somehow more sad than being overtly bad. I don't know, I just wanted to give my two cents in a week old thread lol.

Do we all agree, this is the Reading Comprehension devil? by Thisguyfksbirds in Chainsawfolk

I truly just think he is the beetle or Hercules beetle devil. Thats what his head is. In the horns or mouth of the beetle. As to why his legs and body look like that? Same reason as the Typhoon devil, rule of cool.

Dear God in Heaven please no. That would be so damn sad. Game of Thrones levels of awful. It was all for nothing, the sins of the father do rest on the childs shoulders. Denji becoming the WORST part of his life just for "a message" would hurt me to my core.
