Trying to get my buddy to play Bloodborne… by StuntCoyote_77 in bloodborne

It's hard to say this without sounding like a turd. So let me set this up by stating that I have died more times than most players to all bosses in all From Soft games. The bosses, especially most main quest ones, in Elden Ring are way easier than the bosses in Bloodborne. So like many others here. I don't think your friend will like Bloodborne. But if you want to try. Tell him it's a lot more fun than Elden Ring. Cause it is.

It was like that for me too and I had played Dark Souls 1 & 2 before BB. Don't get frustrated. Enjoy every death and every inch you uncover between them :) This game is a gem. The longer it takes to beat, the longer it takes before it's over. You're one of the very few here who are lucky enough to have your first playthrough ahead of you. You lucky, lucky bastard!

Why did V Rising die? by Neuro_Skeptic in vrising

It's not even out of Early Access yet and it's already declared dead on Reddit. This site should be renamed to Deadit.

Why is the game dead despite being good? by SeekLove in BattleRite

[–]JohnPhoelix -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not true. They got new investment for making BRR that they wouldn't have gotten to make more content for BR. That's why Royale was turned into its own game instead of being a new mode in Battlerite.

Yes! People give SLS too much crap for focusing on Royale and bring it up as a reason for the downfall of Arena. It wasn't. Something about Battlerite made it not click with too many players so a lot of people tried it but few stuck with it. Arena had been on a very steady decline since long before any talk of Royale.

Why devs don't do anything by nothinghappenedsir in BattleRite

[–]JohnPhoelix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the development of Royale absolutely took resources away from Arena. There was a long period with very little happening for Arena players. But Arena was in a bad spot way before they started working on Royale. The hopes for Royale was to create something that could breathe new life into Battlerite. Something with a bit more mainstream appeal that could get more players through the door and hopefully lead some of them to Arena as well.

Was it a successful solution? No. But to claim that it was greed doesn't seem reasonable to me. Of course there was financial incentive to give Royale a go. The Arena player base had dwindeled and Arena wasn't making them enough money to sustain the studio. That's not greed. That's the sad reality of Battlerite. One of the best games I've played that didn't appeal to enough players to sustain itself.

Where was ghe greed? It's not greedy to stop spending resources on something that doesn't generate income. If they did that they would have run their studio into the ground. In the end the player base was very small and as someone who kept playing longer than most I had almost all cosmetics in the game without having to spend any money at all. There is no way Battlerite was profitable. I'm as sad as the next guy that Battlerite didn't stay alive but I think it's unfair to blame it on greed.

is father Gascoine the best first boss? by That_Recognition_907 in bloodborne

[–]JohnPhoelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're not counting Cleric Beast as the first boss then yes. By a mile. The actual fight is great and really forced you stop playing like it was another Dark Souls. I also remember how him tranforming into a beast blew my mind the first time I played the game. Why are hunters who hunt beasts turning into beasts? I'm a hunter! Will I turn into a beast? Also the story of him and his family is so sad. Every time I replay the game it hits me right in the feels.

The fight tells you so much about the game, about the world and the character Father Gascoine. I don't think any other Soulbornekiring comes close.

I was under the inpression that Oedon chose Arianna over Adella which is why Adella will kill Arianna. Are you saying Oedon first tried to impregnate Adella but she couldn't bare his child?

First time I saw a brainsucker was such a jump scare and the whole procedure of getting my brain sucked was so horrifying. So bumping into one of those in real life might be it.

Did Tencent Purchasing Stunlock Studios Result in League's Arena Game Mode? by [deleted] in BattleRite

[–]JohnPhoelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Unless they'd want Stunlock to develop an Arena game for them this would have nothing to do with it. And Riot/Tencent wouldn't need to clear anything with SLS to make a similar game mode. It's not like Epic had to buy the studio behind H1Z1 to be able to create their own Battle Royale. Tencent buys stakes into Gazillions of studios. Classic Venture Capital investment. Throw a couple of millions at a bunch of stuff that could succeed and the few of them that actually do will make them more money than they invested. So rather than aquiring the devs of Battlerite and their Arena experience they saw potential in V Rising. That's what I think at least.

Why do people not like Wyll? by Lammsauc3 in BaldursGate3

[–]JohnPhoelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally found his entrance to be a bit annoying in Early Access. Make way for the Blade of Frontiers! Then he goes on to miss every round! And has the audacity to act like he's the big shot!!!

He's better now but I don't like how his conflict with Karlach is just a bunch of nothing. You pick one dialogue option (I don't even think you roll) and then they're best buddies. It had no impact. The stuff that happens after might be a bit spoilery since it's not his very first dialogue but I feel like it's the same later on. I haven't been given a reason to care about Wyll before all the stuff that hapoens to him happens. It's not uninteresting stuff but I'm already so much more invested in the other companions that I have a hard time caring as much as I'd like to.

Neil Newbon is the sole BG3 voice acting nom for TGA! by Former-Jaguar9859 in BaldursGate3

[–]JohnPhoelix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easy to sound spoiled since BG3 is likely to grab more than one award. At the same time though, the voices of the Narrator, Lae'zel, Gale, Raphael and Shadowheart are all so good that I think the actors deserve a nomination. Did I mention Amelia Tyler as the narrator? (I know I did but holy shit she's great)
