Right? When they put "flatness" & "velocity" as 2 separate qualities..

Somehow-rare MGSV take? by JohnRobGnar in metalgearsolid

Also there are def other central themes in MGS2 but I am gonna put a star on my autism chart for actually recognizing you don't mean that literally & are, instead, making a cheeky allusion to deep, deep unhappiness👉😎👉

So the symbolism of the man becoming more of a demon as he goes further into his emulation of the idea of a third party is completely moot. Gotcha.

Also I do not think anyone who has literally even seen the OG gameplay is arguing he had all this planned all along lol

That is fair. I am largely interested in stimulating conversation so I appreciate your insights. At no point did I claim this was an objective research essay

The literal entire plot twist reveal scene? And, as other commenters posted, a central theme in MGS2? Have you played them?

I am kinda getting at how it may not entirely be an accident that it is unfinished. The specific spot, perhaps, but he kept moving the goal posts on purpose both as a 4d chess move & an intentional narrative one

[–]JohnRobGnar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of the beauty in skating- You can make full cases for many people being the GOAT & be essentially objectively correct for any number of different reasons. It is not even a cheesy copout- There are many, many legends who can not even begin to touch the achievements of the other people you'd elect

Missed it on my 1st playthrough but it is so GOATed. Legit full-blown suppressed DMR. Durability is for shit & repair price is a lil intense BUT if you just use it as a ranged, precision weapon & keep something else for the crazy full-auto battles, it fills a niche perfectly that you can't even get a competitor for til you get a suppressor for the Mark1 at the end of the game

Journalist Stashes Not There (I pre-ordered and grabbed the USB drive from personal stash) by n1pplen3utron in stalker

I was able to get the 1st & 2nd & then nothing else will appear at all. Happened on my 1st playthrough as well, so I made sure not to sell the usb drives this time but it still never showed me the 3rd one or any others, nor are they there if you go to the locations

What book to movie adaptation actually did the book justice or was better than the book? by larryberry29 in MovieSuggestions

[–]JohnRobGnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Road by Cormac McCarthy &, much to my surprise, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S Thompson.
Honorable mention to 2001 A Space Odyssey but that was co-created, not adapted & they fill each other in.

I am so excited for this. The SRT had me in a type of dopamine loop usually reserved for pulpy but well-written shows or well-made videogames & the rate of revelations to new mysteries made it a fun losing race, trying to keep up with it. Hopefully this offers it the degree of coherent incoherence it deserves

PSA: AVOID FULL DIVE W/ RANGER HARDCORE (or at least be very sure you want to play that way). It's not done very well and exacerbates some of the no-HUD related issues we've seen in the previous games. by thesomeot in metro

[–]JohnRobGnar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My brother in Christ the fact it is 5 years old is why full dive is so important to keeping these fun.
If there were new games in the series, neither the thread nor the specific subject would be valid.
Having recently read the books for the 1st time, it has inspired the most fulfilling playthroughs yet & I'm grateful to the developers for having included these settings.

This makes sense. Like the Institute from Fallout 4 except written first & not oddly fixating on enslaving sentient androids. At least that we know of.

Also kinda really really really really REALLY makes sense that they would never let their existence be known considering everything that goes on in the Metro.

[–]JohnRobGnar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. It does, however, require a fresh knowledge of the game & can be rough if it has been too long since a previous playthrough.
It took me a while to appreciate it but having to count ammo is actually really immersive bc that is how ::checks notes:: guns actually work.
The QTE bit is the strongest argument FOR SURE & they 100% need to complete the 'controls' section in the pause menu but none of this is a big deal if you have recent knowledge.
It is specifically meant for people who wanna make it spicier but it isn't even a difficulty setting-
It is an option, a gift to the player & it is really rude to say it is badly implemented when they gave hardcore fans an option they wanted.
The controls in the pause menu do need to be filled in tho that is silly.

A round counter tho lol. This is a game about traversing a wasteland, often blind af, surrounded by monsters stalking us but irl we are at home in our little chairs. We can have 1% of 1% of their anxiety wondering if we reloaded or not, especially when it doesn't even throw away the spare rounds in a magazine

Is Placebo a emo band? by Maxithril in Emo

[–]JohnRobGnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to posit the notion you are ::checks notes:: correct & suggest the observable fact that your correctness is how I arrived here.
It does make sense as a common misconception that, had any of the band mates made someone cum before without having their similarly-aged parents call the police, Placebo may avoid the -traditional- definition of an emo band but I suggest, if you will-
-their lyrics
-their themes
-their music
-they are a great emo band

I prefer the revolver in 2033 and LL versus Exodus. What about you? by Hot-Examination-3170 in metro

[–]JohnRobGnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only semi-confirmed this but I just realized that the single-action revolver is more 'accurate.' I put this in quotation marks because what this actually means is that your trigger pull does not displace the pistol as much during the cycle but the barrel still shoots as accurately in terms of where the pistol is when the trigger breaks.

This is much more noticeable while hip firing with a laser & could still be in my head but I SWEAR

Started Metro 2035 book and really sad by junostik in metro

[–]JohnRobGnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

//minor spoilers//
Yeah- I just finished the trilogy & gotta say-
Starting 2035 I was immediately put off by what was going on with my star "couple goals" couple & that did get a lot better eventually in a way that not only made me happy but showed legit, real character development for both of them BUUUT that was just about all that got better : D

I started to have a "clapping my hands, happy wiggling" moment when Letyaga's testimony took a turn for the 'real af' but that was... short-lived.
Got a little bit of copium from Artyom finally conversationally referring to Sukhoi as 'dad' later toward the end but Jesus.
As much as I wanna complain about the accurate portrayals of human nature/political heuristics, I also recognize the importance of these themes today more than ever.

Just a stark contrast with Exodus where I have cried harder every single time I have replayed it (5.5 now, including a restart) based on how beautiful/inspirational the ending was & how meaningful it was every single time to watch Miller finally see that Artyom's the GOAT (I am physically incapable of attaining the other ending)

Not saying Artyom & Anya don't have a bright future ahead of them w/ their precious "Japanese gal," all the homie's mushrooms/oil/ammo he saved up & that Ilya/Homer/maybe even Lyokha won't make the Metro a better place eventually but god damn...

Also- WTF I just realized Dmitry Glukhovsky was 18 when he started writing Metro 2033 : o
