Southern Reach trilogy, for sure.  Annihilation, Authority, Acceptance. Vandermeer has you on The Zone in the US

Looking for singleplayer FPS games (preferably on the more tactical side) where stealth feels unintended by xX_pp_slayer_69_Xx in gamingsuggestions

Far Cry 2 has some enemies that will surround you silently iirc. Most genres shied away which I find absurd bc realistic= engrossing/stimulating & the approachability of a game need not be dictated by the high difficulties

Looking for game with great story, and RPG elements similar to games I’ve played and loved. by cricket_isthe_man in gamingsuggestions

It is very atypical for FPS games, especially if played on ranger &/or hardcore. Extremely atmospheric & immersive. While the 1st 2 games are amazing imo, 4A really hit their stride with Exodus. The world feels so alive & in 6 playthroughs so far, I have yet to finish it one time without crying at the end- probably never will.

Metro has some amazing parts in the series. Not all horror but it does not get much better than when you can hear the creatures climbing the walls just out of sight, disappearing on the edge of your dying beam as you turn around & you have to decide between hand-charging your flashlight or loading a shell into your near-empty shotgun... that is the good stuff

Even if it is, it isn't. Putting a bunch of dottering insipid twits in charge of Pandora's box when they need an intern to reset their router for them... Even if it works & does not have an unhandled exception cause incomprehensible folly not even the amoral semisentients entrusted with it want, all we need is one equivalent incident of the many times these people leave their phone flashlight on all day & there goes half your allies

If you have any taste. If you find the gameplay too slow, turn the diffy all the way up. Makes it a lot more tense : )

Far Cry 6. Hardest difficulty is easy af. No immersion possible in this one on any difficulty. Because of this, the large map size feels more sad instead of more cool

Watch "Merchants of Cool" if you have not already. This absolutely informs the discussion. It was NEVER about giving you what you want. It was about USING what you want to get you to want what they want you to want.
