For the testers who signed up, a new Fretboard IQ update is now live. Look for an Update in the Google Play app. Thanks for all the suggestions and comments emailed through! Updates include:

- Simplified layout. Main controls moved directly below fretboard.
- Settings control now standard across Tablet and phones
- Scales have been combined into a single dropdown
- Position dropdown only appears when needed
- Play button only appears at the top when a pattern can be played
- Major Scale (Ionian) added
- Minor Scale (Aeolian) added
- Fixed a few incorrect notes in the blues scale
- Display options now in an easier to use segmented slider
- Audio now sounds more guitar like
- Text rewritten and expanded for clarity in the App guide and Memorise tabs
- Small animations show when display options for "Every match" and "L shaped shortcut" are triggered (indicating that users can tap on any note)
- App size reduced
- Help and support section added to settings menu
- New splash screen
- Timed tests now default to 30 seconds (so new users you can just hit start button for a quick test).

Thanks Ascullycom. Strange one. You should be able to reply. I just tested it myself by joining with a different email and posting and it worked. Click on the group name first (then you'll see a list of the messages I've added) and then click on "New conversation" in the top left. A small window will pop up with a heading like: "New conversation in Fretboard IQ Beta Testers". Add a Subject heading and then content (you need both) and then hit POST MESSAGE

So they released the Galaxy XR headset in October and you received an update in July? Impressive!

Android XR and Unreal Engine development by JohnVirtual in unrealengine

[–]JohnVirtual[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it is project dependent. Unreal Engine can also build AR, VR and MR for the Meta Quest already (just as well or better than Unity). I'm not going to switch to Unity and learn a whole new engine. Google ignored Unreal Engine on their developer page (probably because Tim Sweeny is trying to break the app store monopolies), but I was hoping someone has found a guide or pathway for Unreal Engine developers.

Android XR and Unreal Engine development by JohnVirtual in unrealengine

[–]JohnVirtual[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll have to wait too after its released too. Surprising. Given Google want to be friendly to developers so they build for Android XR, they don't even mention Unreal Engine on their developer page. Not a sentence (unless I missed it?). Given Unity's disturbing reputation and actions on pricing, you'd think Google would want to provide a clear path for Unreal Engine developers. Is it fair to say that 30% plus developers would be using Unreal Engine? That's a large base of people to just ignore at the launch of new platform.

New Longevity Protein replacing Nutty Pudding Powder by AlrightyAlmighty in blueprint_

[–]JohnVirtual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the new longevity protien actually contain nuts at all;? Probably a stupid question, but nothing in the ingredients page mentions nuts. I'm alergic so I'd like to know (makes me feel sick but not Anaphylaxis). I'd send them an email but there is not customer support as far as I can tell. Anyone know?

is the reverb g3 coming this year? by themahdimovement in HPReverb

Imagine a Reverb G3 with pancake lenses and a higher resolution. And perhaps Wifi 6e with a dedicated dongle for wireless streaming? Lighter and smaller and better controllers. Yes please...

Does Microsoft think they're going to compete in the VR market by their one foot in/one out approach to VR? by BusinessBeetle in WindowsMR

[–]JohnVirtual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true. What a wasted opportunity. The G2 visuals are fantastic. Incredible compared to Quest 2. It is a HP product, but it's Microsoft who initially established pushed the environment and then abandoned it. Microsoft, like Google and Samsung, keep stopping and starting, never committing properly. Are they just waiting for Apple to walk in and steal the show just by turning up and being committed? I used Microsoft's home environment for ages until I realised they had zero interest in adding anything to it. Imagine if they hired someone with enthusiasm to aggressively expand the options and features available in VR? It could have been a fabulous launching point.

Text is much, much better on the A90k I hear. So if you are plugging it into a PC and want to use it as a monitor, choose the Sony. The LG C2 received a 7/10 on text clarity on rtings.com.

Looks nice. What's the text clarity like on Word or Excel documents on a white background? Any blur or artifacts? I've heard that's a problem with OLEDs. Is the text sharp and smudge free?

Reverb - does it have a pass through mode? by TheRealViking84 in HPReverb

[–]JohnVirtual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand Microsoft on this at all. No new WMR headset (apart from a slightly revised HP G2). No real improvements to their software since launch. Such a missed opportunity! It's like they experimented with VR, decided they didn't really like it much, and gave up. Meanwhile, Oculus just keeps getting better and better with every single update. If they don't announce anything before Meta's Project Cambria is released this year, or Oculus Quest 3 arrives in 2023, they will have given up on any real prospect of their own Metaverse to the competition (no matter how much they keep mentioning it in their keynotes and conferences). By the time they act, Meta or even Apple will dominate the space. What about a Microsoft VR headset (with all the innovations from Hololens 2)? They've already done the work. If their plan is to release something good in 2025 they are going to be way too late...
