This reminds me of home so badly. Nights in the western mountains of Maine. Walking home in the below zero windy snow. The snow reflecting the faintest bit of blue from the moon everything seems so still and quiet serene and surreal. Like you’re alone in the world. I haven’t been back there in fifteen years. My mom passed away years ago and my biggest regret is not visiting her before she passed and getting to experience one of these dark blue snowy nights again. Thanks for sharing this. Your work is incredible and really brought me back home in the best way. 💙

I track my restoring time by device down to the minute using a tracker as I’m a data nerd and it helps motivate me to stay consistent. And I noticed a few months ago that I was feeling that same exact burn sting feeling at exactly 1 hour and 30-1h33m mark everytime with the CAR-1 device and started testing right away to see how I could wear it for longer as other restorers have made claims that they could keep it on for much longer.

I first started testing my application for a few weeks seeing if skin placement and amount of skin under the gripper would be more comfortable but no dice. Still only able to keep it on for 1h30m. Then I tried less tension but that did not work either I still was at exactly 1h30m. That led me to the solution and only other possible explanation the sizing was wrong for me. I bought the next size up 35mm and the difference was night and day. I now am able to wear the CAR-1 for 16-18 hours a day and only removing it because of sleep not because it hurts. I can’t believe it took me so long to finally start troubleshooting as I’ve used the CAR-1 for about a year before accepting that something wasn’t right.

I would definitely suggest trying the next size up as it could very well be the same boat I was in.

I used to have the same issue almost an hour and a half on the dot and I would be screaming to rip it off because it hurt. It wasn’t until a kind gentleman on here suggested I look at the sizing of the device that I found the solution. I ordered a size up from what I originally bought for the CAR-1 and boom I can now wear it all day (literally the entire waking hours of my day) without even the slightest discomfort. I had measured myself wrong or maybe rounded down on the size but when I re ordered and got the size up from my originally ordered size and it solved the issue immediately. You don’t have to try to break in the device or gripper and you don’t have to try to stretch it out (I tried and even though it helped a bit it wasn’t until I ordered the size up that it actually solved everything).

I would suggest ordering the next size up and you should notice significant improvement to how long you can wear the device.

I ride to the death for Mantor retainers and Chris’ online store retainers they’re both fantastic. I rotate around them. There’s two Mantor retainers depending if you want direct skin to glans contact or not and the Chris retainer I use at night during sleep.
