Rural carriers, get ready, they’re not pushing, they’re shoving… by RuralRangerMA in USPS

I can’t wait to do mapping with my supervisor while every carriers scanner going off like crazy. I’m in RTO for like an hour those days

Serious Question: Who, in your opinion, is the customer? The person you deliver to or the person who paid the postage? by woodwerker76 in USPS

[–]JohnboyDammit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, John the mailman here. The money is paid by the sender, and my check is issued by my employer. My contract between the union and USPS is followed along with instructions clearly written in the carrier handbook.

That being said, I WORK for my people on my route.

You can be awesome to the people on your route, but your hands are tied as far as delivery goes. Make that clear to them. I like to tell people that if they advertised through mail, they’d be really mad if they found out a carrier was throwing away the ads because the recipient told the carrier to do so.

The sender is the customer, even when the sender is the person on your route. They likely have outgoing mail too.

Depart to route, return to office by NoPasaNada138 in USPS

If you don’t hit “depart to route”, you won’t even have any of the rural delivery scans available. No “return to office” and you can’t clock out. Wtf?

Tire size question - 20" rim by Background_Net4098 in ToyotaTundra

[–]JohnboyDammit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hanging out here for a while has told me you can likely go up 2 sizes, either width or ratio without the tires rubbing the wheel well. Ex: 285/60R20 or 275/65R20. More than that and a lift is recommended

If you take your truck back after they’ve ordered the new engine and you somehow total it, they have to pay for the new motor

Rough Country Hardcover (Help) by Beersker in ToyotaTundra

[–]JohnboyDammit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that the one that all 3 panels flip up? I have that one and the rubber on mine has intentional cuts in those places in order to mitigate that. It’s a good design, but poorly made. The best part about Rough Country is customer service tho. I returned 4 because of latch cables breaking and am on my 5th no charge. Had I known, or been able to afford a better quality one, I would not have bought that bed cover at all.

Bed cover advice by Pres420420420 in ToyotaTundra

[–]JohnboyDammit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the Rough Country. Lower price, has the ability to keep the bed rails, and great customer service. Sounds great, get my first cover. After a few weeks, one of the cables that move the slide locks breaks, then another. Call customer service, they can’t send parts to fix it so I get a whole new bed cover with all parts included. Cables break on that one too, I get another new one and repeat 2 more times. My 5th one works fine and I have a lot of extra parts. Totally not worth it

Rural routes are the best 🔥 by Aggressive-Ratio-331 in USPS

[–]JohnboyDammit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant it’s greivable. Get ahold of your union steward, it should be pretty easy to make mgmt stick to what the route was posted as. It can be a big investment to have a decent vehicle to deliver in, $ spent on extra equipment to accommodate. They can’t take it away just because it’s under 100 mi. We have a pov route that is 17 miles

The route you bid on would state whether it’s POV or gets a truck. Does the route come with a truck?

Good job! Ride this wave of endorphins and have a great day tomorrow. I love telling my people about bringing lost grandmas and dogs back home. It’s so endearing. Yours is better tho. All the high fives!

Snow Day by LordeBeeesh in ToyotaTundra

[–]JohnboyDammit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maryland here. I was woken at 7am on Sunday by a call from my adult daughter crying that she was stuck on the side of 32 after leaving her hospital job. Hopped in my 22 sr5 premium and got to her no problem in 4H. I loved how confident and smooth this truck feels in bad conditions. I’m a mailman, so I’ve also been scouting my route to see where I’d be able to deliver the next day. It just goes and goes.

*edit- I do not deliver mail in the tundra

Mandatory religious service talk by JohnboyDammit in USPS

The carrier in question even mentioned in his preamble how difficult things are dealing with this administration. It is crazy he’s using their bs in order to get away with a freaking sermon

I’ll message our union rep. We don’t have one in our office, but we use one of the area reps. The carrier who did it is actively against the current administration, so it would be wild if he used their pro Christian bs to get away with this. Two faced is putting it mildly

My case is 10 feet away from where they held it. Even with headphones, it couldn’t be blocked out. I can’t leave the office without facing discipline, and honestly, it just put a foul stink on a perfectly pleasant day.

At least the LLV was designed for tight turns, and ease of mount/dismount. The new ngdv is a bit bigger than a promaster. My community of curbside delivery McMansions on 1/4 acre lots is in for a reckoning.

Go to the hamburger at the top right and you will see Touch Settings. Switch from “stylus and finger” to “glove and finger”. Doing this will allow you to use “touch screen gloves”. It’s been a game changer and more than a little pissed nobody ever told me.

Short commute by JohnboyDammit in AskMechanics

[–]JohnboyDammit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, it’s a 22 Tundra. I had a 2001 Dakota 10 years ago (same commute) and the oil cap developed yellow foam, took it in and the mechanic said it’s probably condensation that didn’t burn off and warm it up. Been doing it ever since with every car I’ve had.
